“To appreciate cultures means to appreciate differences”, workshop by Zeta Giampazolia

The primary objective of the experiential workshop, led by Zeta Giampazolia, was to enhance students' comprehension of culture.Through the workshop, students came to understand that the diverse cultural backgrounds of individuals often influence their perspectives and behaviors in ways that can hinder intercultural connection. The workshop aimed to equip students with the skills necessary to approach and understand individuals from different cultures, encouraging tolerance and challenging the stereotypes that often color our perceptions of those who are culturally different.

Understanding Culture: Key Characteristics and Traits (youtube.com)

watch the video and try to answer:

  • Do you believe we are born with our culture or we learn it?
  • Is culture a personal matter or something we share as a society or a community?
  • Is culture static or does it change?
  • Do we follow the rules and the patterns of our culture consciously or unconsciously?
  • Which elements of culture are easy to see and which of them are difficult to see?

“Appreciate the differences”

Differences between us are what make life so interesting. In a world shared by 7 billion people, it can be kind of illogical to not respect the diversity within the human race. It only shows us better and different ways to approach life and to appreciate different things from those we see day to day.

Don’t put people in boxes” activity

It’s so easy to place people in boxes, creating sides, drawing lines.

· There is us and there is them.

· Those we feel comfortable with and those we don’t.

· Those we trust and those we try to avoid.

· Those we share something with and those we don’t seem to share anything with.

But…beyond our differences, there are too many things we share…
