A2. Compose a theme

Compose a theme song for a show or video game of your choice! This is an ORIGINAL theme. You can write a theme to an existing show or game, but it must be a new idea. You can use loops, your piano keyboard, or both!

Grading:

1. Tell me what instrumentation you used(20)
2. Tell me how the music that you created matches the show’s story in instrumentation and genre (50)
3. Is your theme between 30 seconds and 2 minutes long? (30)

A3. Compose a score

Create music for one of the scenes in this folder. The music you create will set the tone of the scene and inform the audience as to what is happening. Is it sad? Scary? Exciting? Happy? Your music will decide! You can use loops, your piano keyboard, or both!

Grading:

1. Tell me what instrument (s) you used to create your score (20)
2. Explain how the music that you created informs the listener as to what is happening in the scene (50)
3. Tell me the timestamp of the scene that the music accompanies or combine the music and film clip in iMovie (30)

B. Record a copy-cat of an existing theme

Choose an existing TV theme song, video game theme, or jingle and recreate it as closely as you can. You will have to learn how to play the theme first! Pay close attention to the instrumentation of the original if you decide to work on this one.

Grading:

1. Tell me what instruments are used in the original theme or jingle(20)
2. What instruments did you use to try and match the original? (50)
3. Do the melody and chords match the original? (30)
