How do I use Studio?

  • Welcome videos every week on the home page

First page of the module for the

current week is designated as the home

page & includes an overview, objectives,

reading assignment, & link to office hours

        Recorded on quick time and uploaded into studio

  • Recorded chunked (5-10 minute) PPT lectures for students in hybrid and asynchronous classes

  • Captioning in studio

Advantages of using Studio

  • Easily embeds into Canvas
  • Good captioning technology
  • Humanizes the online platform
  • Supports relationship building with students.

Disadvantages of using Studio for Weekly Welcome Videos

  • Studio can be glitchy (this is why I use quick time)
  • Making weekly welcome videos takes time (in my opinion the benefit is worth it)
  • Not clear to me who “owns” content created in Studio

Create a Studio Video Lecture Using Power Point

Toggle

You can toggle between these options during the recording

Select

During the countdown select either the large square for instructor view or large square with a small square in it to show the powerpoint slide(large) and instructor view (small) simultaneously.

Hit

Hit record.

Adjust

Adjust crop window to the ppt slide

Select

When the record window opens, select “both”

Select

Select open screen recorder launcher

Click

Click record and select screen capture

Tab

In another window or tab open studio

Open

Open the power point lecture

How do I use Studio?

  • Welcome video each quarter
  • Face to face lectures are recorded in studio for students to access asynchronously
    • Lectures and mini lectures
    • Record on ZOOM and upload to Studio
    • Caption using Studio
  • Course analytics

Advantages of Studio

  • Seamlessly embed videos into Canvas
  • Annotate and caption video
  • Organize lectures using collections
  • Monitor student progress using analytics
  • Students can speed up, slow down or rewatch videos

Disadvantages of Studio

  • Cannot use Studio with Canvas app on iPad
  • Cannot record written annotations using Studio on Mac, only record screen
  • Quicktime recordings can take a long time to upload
  • ZOOM Workaround
  • Students required to “Launch External Tool” when using Canvas app

Record lectures via ZOOM

  • Start meeting via ZOOM
    • Turn off video (recording doesn’t show face)
    • Turn on recording
    • I have both setup automatically via ZOOM
  • Screen Record on Mac OR
  • Share screen to iPad
    • If sharing wirelessly make sure Mac and iPad are on the same network
    • Deliver lecture until recording is completed
  • Download ZOOM Recording to Mac

  • Open Studio in Canvas
  • Upload lecture recording to Studio collection
  • Change thumbnail (Nicole)
  • Open Captions > Manage Captions
