Wilde Lake High School Graduation

Merriweather Post Pavilion

3:00 pm

Arrival for Graduation

  • Graduates need to be at Merriweather in full graduation attire at 2:15pm
    • You cannot carry any items with you, such as purses or bags.
    • Please secure any belongings with a friend or family member.
    • Do not bring any air horns or balloons into Merriweather

Checking In

  • When you arrive at Merriweather, you will check in with WLHS staff at the back of the pavilion.
  • Line up according to the rows from rehearsals.

Processional

  • Once the program begins, you will follow your line to the top of the pavilion.
  • There will be a pacer at the top of the stairs that will tell you when to walk down the stairs.
  • You will process in, remember to walk slowly. The stairs are oddly spaced, you will want to take 2 steps on each step.

Beginning of Ceremony and National Anthem

  • Once you get to your seat stay standing.
  • Armand will cue you when to sit.
  • After his speech Armand will you you to stand for the National Anthem and Lift Every Voice
  • If you are able and choose to, please remove your caps and place them over your hearts after standing.

Moving Backstage

  • After the National Anthem Oliver will cue you to sit.
  • Wait until you are seated to up your cap back on.
  • You will remain seated during the program until after Ms. Swickard Mallo speaks.
  • Then listen for your row leader to prompt your row to go backstage.
  • You will follow them backstage, staying in order.

Backstage

  • Follow the direction of staff backstage!!!
    • They will be checking to make sure you are:
      • Not carrying anything
      • Your tassel is on the RIGHT side.
      • Checking that you are in the right order
      • And triple checking the order!

Exiting the Stage

  • As you leave the stage, walk down the stairs then turn RIGHT.
  • Head over and receive your diploma from Student Services.
  • Then head back to your row.

Recessional

  • At the end of the ceremony you will exit out of the pavilion from the same side where you entered.
  • At the top of the pavilion you will continue moving to the lawn to meet up with your family and friends.
    • Do not stop at the top of the pavilion, because it will slow everyone else down.

Attire

Option 1 -

  • Light colored dress shirt with a tie.
  • Dark colored dress pants with dark socks and shoes.

Option 2 -

  • Dark colored dress, top with a dark skirt, or light shirt with dress pants
  • Low heeled dark or neutral colored shoes

Graduation Attire

  • If it is visible above the gown it should be a light color.
  • If it is visible below the gown it should be a dark color.

Reminders!!

Don’t leave your cap and gown in your friend’s, sister’s, boyfriend’s, uncle’s car!

You cannot decorate your cap! We will have blank ones back stage and take any decorated caps.

You should not be carrying anything at graduation!

Hand everything off to someone to hold during the ceremony.

Parking

  • There is limited handicapped parking. If you or a family member will need access to handicapped parking, you may need to plan to drop off guests at the ADA lot and then park.

  • For general parking you need to follow the directions of the Merriweather parking staff.
    • You may NOT arrive earlier than 60 minutes before the ceremony.

Departure

After the ceremony, please plan to meet up with your guests and then depart quickly.

There is another graduation ceremony that will take place after WLHS.

So we need to be respectful of their set up.
