Student Focus Groups - Round 2

  • All students from the first round of focus groups were invited to participate.
  • John Scopelleti met with 10 ninth-graders, 13 tenth-graders, 13 eleventh-graders, and 4 twelfth-graders. (A more specific demographic breakdown is available on the second tab of this Sheet.)
  • Focus groups were held during Period 9 and were completely voluntary.
  • Students overwhelmingly expressed support for the new grading practices. They agreed that the new system is more fair, accurate, and helpful.
  • They pointed to the need for community education about what will change and why it’s being changed.

  • Students volunteered in Wellness class and via a survey to participate in a focus group.
  • Focus groups are held during Period 9 and are completely voluntary.
  • John Scopelleti has met with 10th, 11th, and 12th graders already.
  • 9th graders and make-up focus groups will be scheduled in January 2023.
  • Some students have shared some powerful anecdotes about how grades are stressful, confusing, personal, and not focused on learning.
