Why do we do Zentangle?
The word ‘zen’ means calm. Many people around the world practice art to make them calm or to help them feel happy.
Let’s try Zentangle!
The class needs to be QUIET and CALM
I will give you an example of pattern ideas
practice first on a sheet of white paper - then our final project will be even better!
Step 3: Fill in ’ground’ with zentangle pattern and ‘sky’
with watercolor
-Helpful tip: If your watercolor runs, drips, or ends up somewhere you don’t want it to be, you can “erase” it by dabbing it with a paper towel.

Watercolor Basics
we will be practicing a lot of different ways to use watercolor, but first we need to know a few things.
-ALWAYS rinse your brush before dipping in to a new color
-ALWAYS use the lid to do your color mixing
-ALWAYS rinse out the lid when your are finished
-ALWAYS rinse your brush thoroughly
The Golden Rule of Watercolor
Fold your paper into 4 parts:
-Wet on Dry: Draw a shape with fine line marker. Try to get as close to the line without bleeding over
-Gradient: Start out with ONE color, then slowly mix into a SECOND color
-Wet on Wet: Get the square wet FIRST then paint. Wet on wet is your BEST FRIEND! It is very forgiving. If you mess up, you can dab it with a paper towel and “erase” your mistake.
-Crayon: Draw a design or shape first, then paint over it.
If you have time, turn your paper over, and try the “Blot” method with tissue.
