Drawing Extraordinary Plants: Observing and Imagining
Drawing Extraordinary Plants: Observing and Imagining
Lesson 8
Planning an Imaginary Plant
Choose a plant photo that is different from the one you drew in the previous lesson.
What distinctive features do you notice?
Why do you imagine the plant has this feature?
What could the plant use this feature for?
For example, the Golf Ball plant from Mexico has spikes to help protect itself so animals can’t eat it.
Planning an Imaginary Plant: Sketchbook
Choose two photos of plants from around the world that inspire you. Combine distinctive features from both plants to invent something new. This new plant is called a hybrid plant.
Using the same two plant photos, try out different combinations and ideas in your sketchbook. Make 2-3 drawings of hybrid plants.
Planning an Imaginary Plant: Writing
Look at the drawings of hybrid plants that you drew in your sketchbook. Choose your favorite.
What distinctive features from each plant did you draw to create a hybrid plant?
What do you imagine your hybrid plant does?
