Statistics - What is it?
Statistics is an area of maths that deals with data.
Data is information that is gathered by measuring.
We present data in a number of ways - today we will focus on two.
Tally Charts, and Pictographs.
Tally Charts
A Tally Chart is a way of gathering data by tallying how frequently people choose a particular option.
In the Tally column each mark represents one person.
The Frequency column shows the number of tally marks; how frequent or often was that option chosen?

Ways of Getting to School
What is the most frequent way of getting to school? | Walk |

How many people walked, and biked to school? | 18 |

Pictograph
Pictographs are great because they make numbers easier to understand. Instead of looking at boring numbers, you get to see pictures that tell a story about the data.
Pictographs, similar to tally charts, help you see which things are most frequently chosen.
