“How to” for Students
Supported Browsers
For best performance, Canvas should be used on the current or first previous major release of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari. Your computer operating system should be kept up to date with the latest recommended security updates and upgrades.
Instructure products support the current and previous major releases of the following browsers:
You can verify that the browser you are currently using is up to date by using the browser checker tool in the step below

Browsers Behavior
Known Browser Behaviors
Like all Instructure product features, contrary behaviors relating to browsers are prioritized by our product teams, and some behaviors in the previous version may not be resolved. If a behavior exists in the previous version of the browser that does not exist in the current version, the best solution is to update to the newest browser version.
The Safari browser does not support recording media.
Recording media in Studio or Canvas SpeedGrader is not supported in the Safari or Firefox browsers.
It is recommended to use Chrome.

Once you login through Clever, you should not need to login to Canvas.
Usernames and Passwords
Login
Go to https://juliancharter.instructure.com/
*TIP* Bookmark this page so you can find it easily!
This will take you to a Google Login page.
Your username = first name + student id
For example: linda99999
Your password = last name + zip code
For example: Mathews99999
(first letter is capitalized)
First time logging in
When you log in for the first time, you will see this screen.
Click allow.Check “I agree to the term of use” and click on “Submit”
Successful login
Once you have completed logging in you should see the Dashboard.

Using Google Drive in Canvas
To use Google Drive with Canvas, you need to add it from the Account menu.
Courses
Under courses you will see a list of your current courses.
If your courses do not show up on your dashboard, you can add them by clicking on courses and then selecting the star by the name of the course.
Calendar
Access assignments in the calendar.
Add your own events to the calendar.
There is a calendar for each of your courses.
Click on Agenda for a daily list view

Compose an email
Agenda View

Canvas now keeps track of what you access in canvas.
So how can I get to assignments?
You can access assignments several ways in Canvas:

To get to the course view
To see a specific class, click on the course card on the Dashboard or select the class from the courses list.
Inside the course view
Course stream shows all activity for course.
Don’t rely on this!

Click on the announcements page in the course menu.
The announcements are listed in reverse chronological order (newest on top).
You can filter the announcements by read/unread, by author, and topic.

Mobile Apps - Students (and parents!)
There are mobile apps available for Android and iOS devices. You can push your notifications to these apps. You can also use the QR code feature (under settings) to log in.
Download the Canvas by Instructure app on Android and iOS devices.
