Our Schemes

  • Oakwell Rise Pantry: offering surplus food to the community

  • We also have the following initiatives within school:-
    • Compost (adding food waste from the kitchen to our own compost bins)
    • Recycling initiatives with TerraCycle and Rag Bag
    • One hour no electric (and seeing impact on smart meters)
    • Terrarecycle - recycling initiatives that raise money for establishments
    • Rag Bag - recycling clothing and raising funds for organisations (£400 per tonne)

Our Longer Term Plans

Our longer term aim to support our underserved community and relieve food inequality:-

  • Continue to develop the ‘Grow Your Own’ garden with seasonal items to distribute to the community throughout the year from our Oakwell Rise Pantry
  • Create a chicken run with 4-5 chickens to distribute eggs to the local community
  • Develop community garden volunteering programme: in collaboration with local Adult Learning Teams at College

How to Get Started and Funding Opportunities

Register with Neighbourly and Fareshare to receive surplus food from: Marks and Spencer, Aldi, Lidl, Asda and Tesco

This opportunity also allowed us to collect on Christmas Eve/New Years Eve and deliver large amounts of surplus to families at times of economic hardship

Small garden - set realistic expectations and expect plant death/destruction

Community Fridges - Co-Op offer community fridge funding

TerraCycle provide funds to organisations that recycle products via them

RagBag provide funds for clothing recycled through them

Household Support Grants from local authority/UK Shared Prosperity Fund from local authority
