The Early Years

Ars, formerly known as Young Breezy, was born Choi Youngjae on September 17, 1996. According to eyewitnesses his birth was so smooth because his slick dance moves and “straight heat” prevented even the possibility of complications. He was potty trained by three months and dropping the F-bomb by his first birthday. “Hit me with that fruit juice, mommio.”

Ars had few friends because he was often so busy writing dope raps and slaying unsuspecting civilians with his presence alone. He did, however, have some acquaintances (who knew they would be seeing a lot of each other later?). (Clockwise, starting at the top left: J Flawless, Yug Browny, Mom Jean, BAM!, Dimsum 2.0, Def Soul)

The Dream

If you were to ask Ars why he started rapping in the first place, he would probably give you some wildly inappropriate answer that is illegal to air on public television. But, the watered down version is he wanted to “hang with self-respecting ladies, cleanse himself in revenue, and bungee jump with African monkeys off the side of a Buddhist temple”, among other aspirations.

Started From The Bottom Now He Here

Ars jumpstarted his career after BAM!, a prominent figure in the biz and childhood acquaintance, saw his soulful rendition of Mary Had A Little Lamb in 2013. He began attending shows, doing variety, and collaborating with famous singers and rappers. Watch this fantabulous clip of Ars doing a short collab with his company’s CEO BAM! And singing extraordinaire Dimsum 2.0.

Predebut Heat (and not the good kind, either)

A short-lived feud between Ars and labelmate Yug Browny almost caused the rookie rapper to postpone his debut. However, after a video of the two laughing and playing with each other surfaced on the internet, the rumored feud died down and Ars and his label I’dDabThat were back on track for Ars’ official debut in 2015.

Why Ars?

(Excerpt of interview from magazine Peach)

Interviewer: “Yes. We’re here with genius superstar rapper, composer, producer, and all around fly guy Choi Youngjae, popularly known as Ars.”

Ars: “I’d prefer you only use Ars. I spent, like, twenty minutes searching up that shit. Use it.”

Interviewer: “Oh, this guy. Isn’t he a crack up, folks?” *studio laughter* “Anyway, Youngjae-ssi, what made you go with that stage name?”

Ars: “I’m serious, dude. But, Ars is a shortened version of Ars Longa Vita Brevis, which is a Latin saying meaning ‘Art is long, while life is short’. It really encompasses everything I want my career to stand for.”

Interviewer: “That’s actually really profound-”

Ars: “And it makes for a kickass slogan. ‘Lick this Ars.’ I’m swearing in two different languages.”

Interviewer: “I see.”

Reasons To Love Ars

It’s Past Mia’s Bedtime headed to Twitter to ask fans why they loved Ars. These were the responses we received.

He loves animals. You can see he has a real connection with them.

His international appeal is off the charts. Listen to him speak perfect English.

Kids love him. He’s like the hood Barney from Mokpo.

He’s a pacifist.

He also likes to eat. WHO DOESN’T???

2Jae Or Not2Day

Along with fame and love comes constant speculation. Even sweet, dope, supa-hot-fire spittin’ Ars couldn’t escape scandals. He found himself in the middle of one involving rapper Def Soul (real name: Im Jaebum). Although the two adamantly deny any sort of relationship, artists under both labels {I’dDabThat and BAD} claim to have seen the pair sharing passionate moments in utility closets, bathroom stalls, and “anywhere it is humanly possible for two people to fit”. These rumors are still up in the air. This fails to place Ars in the good graces of Def Soul’s ex Mom Jean. Yikes!

Oh No He Didn’t!

Not really helping his career any, Ars was also involved in a big celeb brawl while attending a conjoint meeting of a few different labels. Of course Mom Jean was there, with Def Soul at his side. The other attendees included J Flawless, Yug Browny, and Dimsum 2.0. Inside sources say it was not pretty.

Discussion of a possible collab was ruined when Mom Jean blindsided everyone with “Ars is a dusty hoe that needs to get his own man”. Ars, not one to be outdone, went on to demonstrate where he thought Mom Jean could stick his raps. The fight was brutal and ugly for all involved.

“Don’t kick him!”

Fresh Start

Despite the drama in the previous year, Ars was able to start over in 2016 as a new man. He left that squiggly bi-otch Mom Jean in his past and things may be heating up between him and Def Soul for real, who knows? He’s even dropping an album some time in July entitled The Realest, The Illest.
