Nightly Homework

  • Math Homework is given nightly. There will be a “Homework Helper” page along with their nightly assignment to help parents/caregivers understand the concepts taught in class. The Homework Helper page can be recycled as soon as you are finished with it.
  • Math homework will be checked each day for completion and then checked by the students.
  • From time to time, the students will bring home a Caregiver Letter that will give suggestions on things to do at home with your child that are related to the reading lessons that they’ve done in class.
  • Spelling homework will begin on September 15th. There will be four activities for the students to complete. This should be turned in on Fridays. The students will be given a test on their spelling words weekly.
  • Students need to be reading each night.

Classroom Management

We expect all Stone Mill students to follow the rules and expectations that have been set for them.

  • Check home folders daily for important notices coming from school.
  • Please teach your child how to empty their Take Home folder on a daily basis. It causes confusion when their folders become too full. Graded papers should be removed and reviewed daily.
  • If behavior problems arise in the classroom, you will be notified directly by your child’s teacher.

Room Parents

Three Room Parents are needed for each class to plan our Halloween and Valentine’s Day parties. Room Parents will be the only adults allowed in the building on these days. All volunteers must have completed the MCPS training on Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect.

Email your teacher if you’re interested.
