November Center Ideas
Chant: Start each day with the students pointing to each letter saying the letter, picture and sound. A, apple, /a/ LInk
Matching game: Pick 10 different letters to work on. Students can match the uppercase letter to the lowercase letter, the letter to the beginning sound or the picture to the word. Decide what group needs what. Link to matching game
Alphabet Arc: Link to ideas
Trace letters in sand or in a book. Say the letter formation as you draw the letter. For example: slant down, slant down, cross in the middle (A)
Copy and cut out the turkeys or leaves. Hang around the room. Students look for words and write them next to the number that is on the turkey or leaf. You can just write words on die-cut leaves and hang around the room. You can also have the students write the words on a whiteboard as they find them and not on a paper. Have the students read the words to a partner when they find them all. Link
Put picture of the students labeled with their name. Students write and draw pictures of their friends.
Another option is to write their names on the plastic sheet and feel the name.
Label pictures for students to use in the writing center. You can find pictures at the dollar store or make your own. November link
Students cut on the line and then put the numbers in order to make a picture.
Laminate the paper then give the students small apple erasers to put the number of apples for each character.
All about birds in the science center.
White high frequency words on the paper with a white crayon. Students use watercolors to find the magic word. Link
Put forest animals, sticks and leaves in the block center.
I know this is for October but I wanted everyone to see you don’t need a big table to do the sensory center. Add some fun erasers and the students use tweezers to put in a bucket the amount listed. Have another student check their work.

Laminate and die cut paper into different shapes. Write an uppercase letter on one shape and a lowercase letter on another shape. Students make matches. If they finish before the time is up they can put the alphabet in order or turn the letters over and play a matching game.
Put magnets on the letters and pictures. Students make the words. Link
Students trace their hand and arm to make a tree. Add leaves or rip paper to make the leaves.
Make turkeys in the playdough center. Put letters in the center and have the students make the turkey’s name.
Students roll a dice then cover the number on the board. Play with a partner and see who can cover their board first.
Grocery Store: Empty containers are great for the grocery store. Add a scale for fruits and vegetables. Old purses, play money, a register, pad of paper to make a list, and some baskets will help make this a fun, educational dramatic play. If you google: dramatic play signs for grocery store free. You can find signs to add to it.
Copy the tree and put in a plastic sleeve or laminate. Die cut small leaves and label with letters. Students use the leaves to make words. You might need to set out cards with words and pictures for some students.
Students cut the pictures apart and match the picture with the letter to the picture of the beginning sound.
Note: If you don’t want to have it as a worksheet you can cut it out and laminate it so they do it then do other puzzles in the center.
Students make the sentences with a partner. They can read the sentences and write them when finished. Students can also make their own sentences. Link
Students cut pictures out of junk mail or magazines for what they want to eat for dinner. Could also cut the pictures and put it in a paper lunch box (cut out of old file folders).
Students listen to the story then draw about it.
Put nursery rhymes that you have taught, written on chart paper in the reading centers with a pointer. If you have other charts you use often put them in the reading center.
