Roger Miller's song: Country singer Roger Miller wrote and recorded "King of the Road" in 1964, inspired by a sign he saw in Chicago that said "Trailers, for sale or rent". The song is about a traveling hobo who is content with his freedom despite having little money, and describes himself as the "king of the road". Miller's song is considered an upbeat take on poverty, and its melody and lyrics made it easy for listeners to sing along. "King of the Road" was released in 1965 and became popular with country and easy listening audiences. It won Miller five Grammys in 1966 and sold more than one million copies.
