Financials

• Fiscal year end is June 30
• Average spend of about $60k / year 
• > 30% are pass through costs (participants pay directly)

• Sponsorships/Donations typically account for $1-2k of our budget and are increasingly important given challenging fundraising environment

GOLDEN LACROSSE GOALS

​

1. Have at least 15 players make honor roll. Maintain eligibility through the year for all players.
2. Make a positive impact in the community by doing community service and helping others in need.
3. Instill in each player a positive mental attitude in school, our team, our community, and themselves.
4. Develop positive character while working with a diverse group of people from many backgrounds.
5. Learn to face adversity and persevere in order to achieve positive results.
6. Teach respect in regards to the game, the opponent, and coaches, but most importantly themselves.
7. Gain self confidence and learn self-discipline.
8. Learn what it means to establish goals and then work towards meeting them.

GOLDEN LACROSSE PLAYER EXPECTATIONS

These policies and rules are designed to ensure that each player receives the best experience possible, while giving maximum effort in the success of this program. In order to participate as a member of this prestigious program, you must understand these expectations and know that any violation of these expectations may lead to your dismissal from the program.

RULES AND POLICIES:

#1 ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, and VAPING: Use of these items is strictly prohibited. Players violating this rule will automatically receive a 3 game suspension for the first offense. The second offense during a players’ career, will lead to dismissal from the program.

Players who are 18 may not use tobacco during any team activity or event.

#2 DRUGS: Any offense involving use of or possession of drugs and paraphernalia, selling, and/or buying drugs, will lead to the immediate dismissal of the player from the program.

GOLDEN LACROSSE OFF-FIELD PLAYER EXPECTATIONS (cont.)

#3 SUSPENSION FROM SCHOOL: Any suspension from school will lead to an automatic doubling of the suspension for lacrosse. Ex.: If a student is suspended 3 days from school, they will be suspended 6 days from lacrosse activities.

#4 UNEXCUSED ABSENCES: For every unexcused absence during the school day, the player will be required to make up that time through extra conditioning. If the unexcused absence occurs on the day of a game, the player will not be allowed to play in that day’s game. Going to class assures you academic success.

#5 BULLYING, HAZING, OR SHOWING DISRESPECT: Such behavior will not be tolerated. These violations will lead to a one game suspension for the first offense. The player will be dismissed from the program for the second offense.

In addition, any behavior or action deemed detrimental to the GHS lacrosse program will be dealt with by the coaching staff in a fair way. The punishment will fit the crime.

No punishment will be handed out based on hearsay or rumor. The accusation will be investigated to the fullest extent. The coaching staff must have proof and/or action from the school administration or teachers before punishment is handed out.

BEING A MEMBER OF THIS PROGRAM IS A PRIVILEGE AND NOT A RIGHT. MEMBERSHIP MAY BE REVOKED AT ANYTIME!

GOLDEN LACROSSE ACADEMIC POLICY

Golden Lacrosse values academic performance and progress. Students are encouraged to tend to all of their responsibilities in advance of tryouts for lacrosse, as academically eligible players are the only ones allowed to participate in-season. It is our goal for all athletes to perform up to their potential in the classroom as well as on the field. Grades will be closely monitored throughout the season and steps will be taken to ensure each player’s opportunity to succeed both on and off the field. These steps may include, but are not limited to, mandatory study hall for team members at least twice a week, teacher completed student evaluation forms, and designated school work time during practice for students who need to raise their grades.

****ANYONE INTERESTED IN PLAYING COLLEGE LACROSSE SHOULD MAKE ACADEMICS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING****

Key points to understand-

• The grade showing on your grade report is the only one that matters.
• Golden HS rules state that any player with one “F” becomes ineligible the following week.
• A week in lacrosse will run Monday through Saturday.
• Students who are struggling with their academics will always be supported by the coaches, but are expected to notify staff as soon as possible.

GOLDEN LACROSSE ACADEMIC POLICY (con’t)

Ineligibility-

The ineligible player is still expected to attend all team functions (such as practices and games). Players declared ineligible may be required to attend mandatory study halls prior to or during each practice the following week. Students will also be required to have teachers fill out a student evaluation form and create a plan to raise their grade. The evaluation form and plan must be signed by the appropriate teacher(s).

If a player is declared ineligible three times throughout the season he will be considered for dismissal from the team. A student’s effort, attitude and progress will be evaluated and a decision will be made by the coaching staff regarding the dismissal. The head varsity coach will have the final say on these decisions.

If you are ineligible, you affect not only your playing time, but more importantly, your team. You then put that much more pressure on your teammates. Succeeding academically and athletically will provide you with many possibilities for your future.

If you have a positive attitude towards your academics and put forth your best effort, you are bound to succeed.

Communication

Communication is important to our overall success. The preferred chain of command

follows:

1. The player talks to a coach first.

• Not only is this the most direct avenue for discussion, but is also the most appropriate.

2. If the concern cannot be resolved between the coach and player, a meeting with

the coach and family can be arranged.

• Such meetings should be arranged in advance at a mutually agreeable time

for all parties.

3. If the issue is not resolved in steps 1 or 2, a meeting can be scheduled with the

Golden High School Athletic Director, JC Summers.

4. 24 hour rule

Parent Behavior

​

Do not approach the sideline or attempt to communicate with staff, players or officials.

Always treat referees with respect, the coach will address them when necessary.

​

Stay positive, remember, this is a game and it is supposed to be fun.

​

Do not try to coach your child or any other players from the stands.

​

Do not speak about referees/opponents/players/coaching staff in a negative or damaging way.

​

Failure to follow these rules will result in escalations. (Zero tolerance policy)

Offensive Philosophy

Space Favors Offense – When you don’t have it, find/create it.

Dodge to Score – Get to where goals are scored... the middle!

Clear Space – Create space for dodgers to score.

Communicate – Before, after, and during each possession.

Make the Easy Pass – Hit the singles!

First Time Ground Balls – Pick up the ball first try.

Shoot the Ball – We need to shoot to score.

Triple Threat – Keep two hands on your stick at all times!

• Rosters announced Friday, February 28th
• Practice L3: 3:45-5:15, JV: 4:30-6:00 pm, Varsity 5:30-7:00 pm
• Wall ball before practice for JV and Varsity and after practice for L3

Prior to tryouts athletes must complete:

• Jeffco Registration
• Registration Deadline: February 13, 2025
• Must have a current sports physical on file (new CHSAA form)
• The Jeffco Athletic fee of $185 is due after tryouts and before the first competition.
