According to the CDC (2022), nearly 1 in 5 US children ages 3–17 (21%) have been diagnosed with a mental, emotional, or behavioral health condition. The most common diagnoses include:

  • ADHD: 11% (~7 million children)
  • Anxiety: 11% (~7 million children)
  • Behavioral concerns: 8%
  • Depression: 4.4%

According to the WHO (2024):

  • 1 in 7 youth ages 10–19 experiences a mental disorder, making up 13% of global illness in this age group.
  • Depression, anxiety, and behavioral disorders are leading causes of illness and disability among adolescents.
  • Suicide is the 4th leading cause of death for ages 15–29 world wide.
  • Without support, these challenges can continue into adulthood, impairing both physical and mental health and limiting opportunities to lead fulfilling lives as adults.
