Extracurricular and interscholastic activities are strictly voluntary programs. Students have the privilege of participating in a well-organized program of special interest for which the school provides coaches, sponsors, equipment, and facilities.

Choosing an appropriate time to discuss questions, concerns, and incidents with a coach is imperative for individual and success.

All parent are encouraged to do the following:

  1. Respect players, coaches, and officials
  2. Give encouragement to all student athletes
  3. Recognize outstanding performances by either team with applause
  4. Take part in positive cheers and follow the directions from cheerleaders
  5. Stay off the playing field at all times

It is important that all athletes conduct themselves in accordance with the rules and regulations of the EHS, CCSD, and NIAA.

  1. Follow team rules
  2. Attend practices and games
  3. Avoid the use of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco
  4. No vulgar or inappropriate language
  5. Taunting or “Trash Talking”

  • All athletes must utilize this program to complete the registration process and gain final eligibility for athletics.
  • These are the 6 steps that must completed
  • Parents and students must complete 1 - 4

    • complete registration
    • electronic signature of parent or guardian
    • electronic signature of student
    • electronic documents are uploaded

  • Step 5 and 6 are completed by the Athletic Office electronically by verifying the documents and the fee payments
  • Coaches CAN NOT roster any student that is not complete
  • REMINDER - student must select the sport they are competing for the current season

  • Each student must pay the $25 Athletic Fee

  • A complete physical examination, conducted by a licensed physician, is required every year in CCSD.

  • All physical examination must completed on the appropriate NIAA Forms.

  • All required forms can be downloaded from RMA/Aktivate.

  • All forms, when complete, need to be uploaded to RMA/Aktivate.

Students ARE REQUIRED to have accident and health insurance on their own prior to participation in any sport or school sponsored activity.

The Clark County School District DOES NOT PROVIDE any type of health or accident insurance for injuries incurred by participants.

  • Students are only eligible for interscholastic competition for the school located in the attendance zone in which their parents or legal guardians resides.

  • Falsification of any documents or being dishonest regarding residency will result in ineligibility for 360 days (2 years).

Athletic Trainers

Trainers are nationally certified and state licensed.

  • Specialize in prevention, care, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
  • Certified in CPR/AED/First Aid
  • Extensive training in concussion evaluation & management
  • Provide on-site medical care and direction/referral

What happens when an athlete gets injured?

    • Seek attention of the athletic trainer who will:
      • Determine pathway of care
      • Notify parent
      • Request daily communication from parent/athlete
      • May request medical clearance from a physician
      • Determine return to practice
      • Determine return to play

Concussions

  • C3 LOGIX baseline testing for freshmen & new athletes
  • Initial evaluation & removal from activity
  • Students will be out for a minimum of 7-10 days
  • FOUR Step Process of Clearance
    • Must be cleared by physician
    • Approved score on C3 Logix platform
    • Must be symptom free before any exercise program is initiated (including practice)
    • 5 stages of symptom free physical exertion supervised by athletic trainer before athlete may return to practice

These are the recommended guidelines from the most recent research that have been implemented by every major sport. Return to play takes time. Educate the parents so they aren’t surprised by the timelines after a concussion is sustained.

  • Must be enrolled in at least two (2) units of credits and regularly attend school.

  • Students must have successfully completed at least two (2) units of credits the immediate preceding semester.

  • Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.0 for the immediate preceding semester.

  • All incoming freshmen are initially eligible.

  • All students who participate in interscholastic athletics at a school which is a member of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) must adhere to the NIAA eligibility rules for student athletes.

  • Student who fall to comply with the NIAA rules will lose their eligibility and an opportunity to represent their school in interscholastic athletics.

  • If students participate while ineligible, their school or team will be penalized.

  • It is, therefore, important for all students to be aware of the eligibility requirements.

  • At Semester and Quarter 1: If you student does not have the three things below, they are on the non-traditional route. They will automatically be ineligible for 3 weeks.
  • There grades will be checked at the next 3 week grade check.

On pre-determined dates all grades for all students will be gathered. Any student failing a class will be declared ineligible for the following week and will remain so, until all grades are at a passing level.

COVID-19

  1. The school administration still has to contact trace when there is a COVID-19 exposure or positive test result.

    • CCSD will require students in identified activities and athletics who are not up to date on vaccines or who are unvaccinated to test weekly for COVID-19.
      • Every member of the team participating in the identified athletic and/or activities will participate in weekly mandatory COVID-19 testing if they are not up to date on vaccinations or unvaccinated.
      • Test during the week of competition/participating. If a student does not participate in District COVID-19 testing, they will be ineligible until a negative COVID-19 test is provided to the athletic and/or activities administrator(s), or the student resumes weekly COVID-19 testing. 
      • Provide weekly photos of the negative OTC test to school administrators

Substance Abuse Policy

Participation in an NIAA sanctioned sport is a privilege and responsibility which requires all participants to adhere to athletic training rules. A student athlete determined to be in possession of, or to have used tobacco, an alcoholic beverage, or a controlled substance is in violation of the NIAA policy.�First Violation:�Requires a six (6) competitive week suspension from participation in interscholastic competition. Two (2) competitive weeks of the suspension may be waived if the student successfully completes an appropriate substance abuse intervention program. A student athlete may practice with the team during the suspension period if approved by the coach and principal.

Second Violation:�The student is suspended from interscholastic competition for a minimum of ninety days which shall include a minimum of six (6) competitive weeks of competition. The student must have a substance abuse evaluation assessment conducted by a licensed alcohol and drug counselor within ten days of the suspension. All requirements must be met before athletic eligibility is reinstated. A student athlete may not practice with the team during the suspension period. 

Third Violation:�The student athlete shall be ineligible to participate in interscholastic athletics for the remainder of the student’s high school career.�

  • Hazing is defined as any verbal or physical act that intimidates, degrades, disgraces, or injuries any student; or forces someone to do ridiculous acts or suffer physical or emotional pain as an initiation to a group or program.

  • There shall be no hazing or the initiation of any student during any district sponsored events, activities or interscholastic functions.

  • All athletes are to attend scheduled practices, games and meetings. If a circumstance arises and the student can not attend practice, game or meeting, the coach must be notified prior.

  • Poor Attendance
    • 1. Absence – Any student absent from class on the day of an activity will not be permitted participation that day or evening unless an excuse has been granted, in advance, by the principal.
    • 2. Truancy – Any student who is declared truant will be ineligible for a period of one (1) week after the infraction is discovered.

  • All athletes must travel to and from the athletic contest.
    • If a coach chooses with a required signature, the coach may allow the athlete to ride home with a parent or legal guardian at the end of the contest.

  • All athletes must remain with their team under the coaches supervision.

To be successful in college, students need to be prepared for college coursework. In Division I and Division II, the NCAA sets academic initial-eligibility standards that take into account GPA, standardized test scores, core courses taken in high school and the grades earned in those core courses. Division III schools hold student-athletes to the same overall standards for the institution in which they’re enrolling.
