Concept of Data

The Latin word data is the plural of datum, "(thing) given," neuter past participle of dare "to give".

Parameter

A parameter is a useful component of statistical analysis. It refers to the characteristics that are used to define a given population.

Variables

The characteristics whose values vary from one observation to another observation are known as variables. Form example rainfall is a variables because it varies from point to point.

A variable may also be called a data item. Age, sex, business income and expenses, country of birth, capital expenditure, class grades, eye colour and vehicle type are examples of variables.

Sampling

Sampling is a process used in statistical analysis in which a predetermined number of observations are taken from a larger population.
