Planning a podcast

Activity 1

Today, you are going to begin producing your own podcast.

Lessons 3 and 4: Plan a podcast; voice recording; edit audio recordings.

Lesson 5: Record additional sounds, e.g. background music and jingles.

Our podcast topic is ‘School news’.

If you press Stop then press Record again, Audacity begins recording at the end of the current recording.

Audio can be deleted if required.

• Having a clear voice
• Avoiding filler words such as ‘um’ and ‘ah’
• Not coughing or sneezing
• One person speaking at a time
• No background noise
• Not playing or fiddling with the microphone or digital device

1. Add a new track

2. Name the new track

3. Enter a suitable name (e.g. ‘Topic 1’)

4. Click into the new track’s window to select it

5. Press Record to begin recording sound within the new track

Silence the selected track

A new track should be recorded for each part of your podcast (introduction, topic 1, transition, topic 2, and close).

Saving recordings

Saving your work allows you to continue recording sound for your podcast in the next lesson.

Check carefully to make sure you are saving your project to the correct location.
