MYP Assessment Grades 6-8 at MUMS

  • There are four criteria that are assessed in each subject: Criterion A, B, C & D. (These are not letter grades!)

  • Teachers use common IB rubrics to track student progress toward the four criteria. Based on a 0-8 scale.

Formative: Practice work that kids receive feedback on during a unit in order to prepare them for the summative.

Summative: Measures a student’s performance on a set of skills and/or an area of content after an instructional period.

  • In order to track this progress, teachers use assessment tasks that allow students to demonstrate achievement in a variety of ways. Some examples are:
    • Classwork
    • Debates
    • Hands-on projects
    • Written assessments (tests, papers, etc.)
    • Performances (song, dance, routine, etc.)
    • Reflections

Teachers also report out on “Approaches to Learning”, or “ATLs”.

The 4 ATLs are:

Collaboration, Organization, and Self-Management

You will see a score of:

Rarely (R)

Sometimes (S)

Usually (U) or

Consistently (C)

Power School

Google Classroom

  • Can be thought of as the “gradebook”
  • “Official” formative and summative scores
  • “Official” ATL Scores
  • Generates the report card. These are mailed home each quarter.
  • Can be thought of as an “online classroom”
  • Teacher may post assignments, due dates, or resources to access at home
  • While some teachers may “grade” an assignment on google classroom, the official score goes in PowerSchool, not Google Classroom.
