5th Grade: Monster Self Portraits

Please use this link to access the Nixon 5th Grade Virtual Art Show to view their Monster Self Portraits. Our Fifth Graders were asked to start with a simple drawing of their face. Then using texture and by adding and taking away details they transformed themselves into monsters. They did a wonderful job and I hope you enjoy their work as much as I do (if that is even possible.)

Martin Luther King Jr. inspired Dream Illustrations

This year students in grades 3-5 were asked to listen to a portion of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous I Have a Dream speech. Then I asked students to think of their own dreams that they have for themselves or the world. Before we started illustrating these dreams we looked at a few artists who use their paintings to tell a story. This is a lesson I plan to do with these grades every year and I hope you enjoy the fantastic and thoughtful results. Click here to see the Virtual MLK Jr. Dream Art Show.
