Definition of Key Terms

  • Consumer Rights :Consumer rights as “The Right of Safety “the Right to be informed, the Right to choose, and the Right to be heard.”( John F. Kennedy on March 15, 1962)

  • operationally defined Consumer Rights as a set of laws that represent the right to be informed about the quantity, quality, purity, price of goods and their standards so that the consumer is protected against all sorts of unfair trade practices.

The Higher secondary level is the terminal stage of general education (KCF 2007)

In this study Higher secondary school students refers to those who are studying in classes XI and XII in any of the recognized schools of Kerala.

The variable for the present study is Consumer Right awareness

Classificatory variable

  • Stream of study (Commerce & Non commerce)
  • Gender (Male & Female)
  • Locale (Rural & Urban)

Objectives of the study

  • To find out the level of awareness on consumer rights among higher secondary school students

  • To study whether there exist any significant difference in the level of awareness on consumer rights with respect to stream of study

  • To study whether there exist any significant difference in the level of awareness on consumer rights with respect to gender

  • To study whether there exist any significant difference in the level of awareness on consumer rights with respect to locale.

  • To identify the various programs initiated by Government and Non-government agencies to make them aware about Consumer Rights.

  • To suggest various measures to be taken to protect against unfair consumer practices.

Hypotheses of the study 

1. Higher secondary school students differ in their level of Consumer rights awareness.

2. There is no significant difference in Consumer Rights awareness among Commerce and non-commerce students in higher secondary schools.

Methodology of the study

In the present study, the investigator will adopt survey method

Sample of the study

800 Higher secondary students from Palakkad district will be selected. Random Sampling Method will be adopted.

Tools & Techniques used for the study

 

  • Questionnaire for students to check their level of awareness about various consumer rights.

  • Interview for teachers to collect opinion regarding the Consumer Rights awareness among HSS students.
