Say: (After the video) We wanted to have a little fun with this video. I played the old principal that just wanted the teacher to sign her elements and move on to the next teacher. Rebecca played the good teacher that wanted to understand the process and get the highest rating possible. In the video she was frustrated and I was frustrated. We want to share our DPMAP process and hopefully help ease frustrations you may have with the process going into this school year. What helped our frustrations was our ability to align the DPMAP process with our Continuous School Improvement plan. Through this process teachers can see how their teacher elements connected to student achievement and meeting school, district , and the DoDEA BluePrint goals. Today, we will introduce you to a DPMAP starter pack with resources that may help you. (Click)

Say: We use this planning sheet to help our teachers use their performance elements as strategic actions to meet their SMART goal. We use this same sheet to guide our discussion during the planning, monitoring, and evaluating meetings. The planning meeting is when we help create a SMART goal and reiterate the performance elements. During the monitoring meeting, we review and provide feedback on the progress of our teachers’ plans to meet their SMART goals. We can look at documentation under each performance element and how it is promoting student achievement in their class. Lastly, this sheet helps during our evaluation meeting where the teacher can share what he or she did throughout the year to promote student success in his or her class and to support a higher rating, if needed. Say: The rating examples can further define your expectations to avoid confusion. We took majority of the rating examples from the DPMAP online training for employees. But we enhanced it a little bit by providing our expectations aligned to the Evidence of Success planning sheet. For example, our expectation for fully successful is for teachers to document and use their performance elements as a way to promote student achievement in their classroom. To be outstanding, the teacher would have to go above and beyond their performance elements by making a positive impact outside their classroom (in the grade level, department, with another teacher/school, school-wide efforts, etc.) As a result, student achievement was not only improved in the employee’s class, but in other class’ as well. That is how we distinguished between fully successful and outstanding. (Click)

Say: We wanted to get this right coming out of the gate. We know when things aren’t rolled out efficiently, teachers hesitate to embrace the new things. A script helped tie in all our expectations to ensure success at our school. The script is not meant to be read verbatim. It’s meant to act as a guide to ensure our conversations flow from meeting to meeting. This is especially helpful when there is more than one administrator in the school because the principal and assistant principal can use the script as a guide to stay consistent with expectations. Additionally, the script can help you see how all the DMPAP meetings connect together, instead of feeling like it is a separate meeting with no meaning. The important thing to remember is that a DPMAP script can help further define your expectations in order to promote school-wide and DoDEA-wide success. (Click)

2. If needed, you may modify Edgren’s DPMAP Evidence of Success planning sheet, script, and/or rating examples to create your own process that will work for you at your school.
