FIGURES OF SPEECH:-
A Figures of Speech is an expression which is uncommon & deviates from a common mode of speech. The aim is to create beauty & produce greater effect.
We can say the words which are used to express ideas & feelings in effective & impressive manner.
The use of figures of speech consists in departing from usual or the simplest form of an expression and using words other than their literal sense with a view to making a piece of composition more vivid, striking & powerful.
It is a total change from the ordinary form of expression, or the ordinary course of ideas to make a greater effect.
SIMILE:-
It is a figure of comparison in which two dissimilar things , belonging to two different planes are compared. It consists in giving formal expression to the likeness that exists between two different objects or events. The comparison is made by using words :- Like, As, SO, Such As, Just As.
Simile is a comparison of two unlike things, typically marked by use of ‘AS’, ‘LIKE’ or ‘SO’.
Examples:-
She in her poor attire was seen.
* As flies to the wanton boys,
Are we to the Gods.
They kill us for their sports
* Look like the innocent flower
But be the serpent under it.
Whose nest is in a watered shoot.
Using Similes in Poetry
Predictable
Poor as a church mouse. �strong as an ox, �cute as a button, �smart as a fox.
thin as a toothpick, �white as a ghost, �fit as a fiddle, �dumb as a post.
bald as an eagle, �neat as a pin, �proud as a peacock, �ugly as sin.
When people are talking �you know what they'll say �as soon as they start to �use a cliché.
