Update: Facilities Condition Assessment & Master Planning Project

  • Timeline: Long (25 to 30 years)
    • This is a long term foundation for facilities strategic planning, not a blueprint contemplating specific projects or shifts.

  • Report by expected in early 2024

  • Objectives of the building by building analysis:
    • Improve educational/programming adequacy
    • Improve facility conditions
    • Improve capacity and assess existing populations
    • Meet climate/carbon goals
    • Improve amenities
    • Utilize diversity/equity metrics
    • Improve accessibility
    • Explore site expansion opportunities

  • Key strategic decision-points will precede commitment to any specific path toward new projects.
  • Public engagement critical component to upcoming.

CPP Policy Implications and/or Decision Points

  • December 1st to January 15th registration window

  • 55 to 60 CPP providers, including CPS and DHSP
    • CPS 14 programming options across 12 locations.

  • CPP at CPS schools will matriculate to CPS Kindergarten

  • Families will choose six to 10 via a ranked system.

  • OEC will utilize Bridgecare platform to administer “matching” system, similar to CPS lottery systems.

  • OEC matching system will take into account (1) total capacity, (2) gender balancing, and (3) SES balancing in determination of matches.
  • Language testing between December 1 and January 15 for immersion programs Policy considerations (in coordination with OEC):
  • Subsequent assignment rounds (in discussion with OEC)
  • SES variance (reviewing implications of this)

CRLS Restroom Protocols and Policies

  • Student restrooms are unlocked during the school day.

  • CRLS has increased total number of gender inclusive restrooms to 10 in recent months.

  • Gender inclusive restrooms featured on all floors/wings of CRLS with the exception of second floor of the Rindge building.

  • Some persistent concerns with respect to vaping in the restrooms. CPS explored use of detection system in SY 22-23 and is exploring possible avenues along these lines.

  • Staff and safety specialists complete hall duties and monitor high volume/traffic areas including commonly used restroom facilities.

  • Hall pass system is require and generally employed for students using restrooms during the school day.
