A Bit About Mrs. Burton

I live in Union with my husband. We have 2 boys, Thomas (19) and Tyler (15).

My boys are competitive shotgun shooters and have both won National Championships!

I graduated from Central Methodist with my Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education and also have a Master’s degree.

This is my 26th year in kindergarten at Central! (I taught first grade 1 year before coming to Union.

A Bit About Transitional Kindergarten

Mrs. Beinecke is the TK teacher!
Transitional kindergarten is a stepping stone between preschool and kindergarten, often for children with later birthdays (May-July). It provides an opportunity for kids to build their readiness skills before entering traditional kindergarten, building a solid foundation both academically and socially.

smaller class size, LOTS of play-based learning, participation in all school activities, learning pre-k and kindergarten skills at a slower pace

Observations and assessments will be completed the first few weeks of school. We will contact families if we feel TK is a good place for your child to be successful!

Behavior & PBIS

Minor behaviors are handled in the classroom
In extreme circumstances, major behaviors will be handled in the office
Most behaviors are handled with reteaching, redirecting, and praising the positive
Counselors do weekly lessons with classes to teach about being kind, bullying, and using “Kelso’s choices” to solve their “small problems”
We don’t always see everything- please talk with your child’s teacher if you have a concern. We are here to help guide the students as they learn how to work, cooperate, and play with others.

Homework

Homework Books Usually beginning in November, students will bring home books 1-2 per week to read to you. It is meant to be fun and a way to show off their learning.

Planner Pages The activities on the week’s pages can be done at home.

Fun Homework Special activities, show-and-tell, rewards, etc.

Report Cards

Academic success will be assessed 1:1 with teacher & through observation, as well as with STAR on iPads

-Progress reports will be sent home between report cards

Birthdays

We love to celebrate birthdays! You may send in store bought & packaged treats to share with the class.
Please talk with your child’s teacher about possible classroom allergies.
Students will bring home a birthday book from the library to keep!
Invitations – Must be sent in for all students, all girls, or all boys. We cannot help pass out invitations if others are excluded.

Other Info�

Send lunch money in an envelope with child’s first and last name. Breakfast- $2.30, lunch -$3.35. Milk without a meal is $0.60. *Students need to get breakfast before coming to class.*

Dismissal

Transportation changes must be made with the front office so it can be updated in the KidAccount system.

Only 1 pickup line this year!

Dismissal will start around 2:40 the first few days, then move to 2:45.

Things to start working on for a smooth start…

separating from an adult

-make it short and sweet- quick hug and kiss and be on your way- long goodbyes are harder

*Speak positively- try “I’m so excited for you to start kindergarten” instead of “I’m going to miss you so much.”

opening lunch boxes and snacks independently

-snacks separate from lunch in a different part of their backpack- This confuses a lot of them!

using the restroom independently- buttons, zippers, washing hands and drying
waiting patiently for their turn
accepting “no” as an answer
Using words to express emotions
Have conversations about their day!
These are all things that we will help with if they need it, but the independence is easier on everyone!
