Week 12.03.2021

This week we focused on...

Math: The students have been full of energy hopping on the number line to practice addition and subtraction. The 1st graders worked with a number line counting by 1s up to 10 then counting by 10s to 120. The class also studied a number line with only a few numbers given to figure out what was missing in the box.

Writing: The 1st graders used their homework from break to write more How To books. The students continued to add more details, drawings, and labels to help their audience understand what they are teaching. The students also shared in small groups to provide feedback and ask questions about the How To books.

Reading: This week’s read aloud series explored different authors who used humor in their stories. The class laughed so hard with many stories throughout the week. The students also continued to build their stamina with writing and reading. The students also continued practiced rhyming words and blending sounds. Lastly, the students brainstormed reasons why they liked certain winter activities.

Theme: The students read Betty Bunny Wants Everything and discussed what choices Betty made in the story. Then, the class discussed a want vs a need, and made a list of what they need to survive and what are items and experiences they want. At the end of the week, the students discussed how their choices affect their needs and wants.

EE: Ms. Naomi taught the class about the predator and prey relationship. The students brainstormed a list of different relationships such as a spider-mosquito or coyote-mouse-seed. The class played Predator/Prey, which everyone got very into their roles. The students were either the coyote or mouse.
