Grant Budgeting Basics

2 Types of Costs

  1. Direct Costs (DC) - Expenses needed to complete the project’s aims.

Examples: salaries; data; translation; participant incentives.

  1. Indirect Costs (IDC) - The general costs of doing business, sometimes referred to as overhead costs or F&A.

Examples: rent; utilities; basic office supplies; administrative personnel (me!).

Need to know what the funder is willing to pay for.

Let’s Prepare a Budget

The Health Equity Research Lab’s ALACRITY Center for Early Screening and Treatment of at-Risk Youth (the eSToRY Center) is pleased to announce a pilot project funding opportunity. The eSToRY Center will be funding multiple pilot projects related to improving mental wellness and preventing mental illness and suicide among racial, ethnic and linguistic minority youth and young adults. Successful pilot projects will be awarded up to $25,000.

Our project, The Mental Health of Teens at 1 Clinic,

proposes to analyze data from all 13-18yo patients at the

CHA Windsor Street Health Center.

Aim 1 = In the past 5 years, how many teens have been referred to mental health treatment (EHR review)

Aim 2 = Of the teens who see a Mental Health Professional, how many are on medication and what medication classes are they being prescribed (EHR review)

Aim 3 = Qualitative analysis of teen caregivers on the teens pre and post being prescribed medication (5 interviews)

Budget Justification
