Field training is where we actually start doing the business.

Here we find our own clients.

We build our own agency.

We find our own people.

That’s also why we get to own it.

When we build it — it’s ours.

We don’t have quotas.

We don’t have to make a bunch of money for somebody else.

We have huge contracts.

So I was always like:

“I’ll find the people.

I’ll build the team.

You just let me own the thing.”

Let me be free.

Let me build something.

Let me make the money.

But at the beginning it’s simple.

Just think about your personal network.

Your top 10…

maybe 30 people you’ve got a decent relationship with.

And we’ll show you how to reach out and set a couple basic appointments.

Usually right there gets things moving for you pretty quickly.

*** EXAMPLE CALL (TRAINING APPOINTMENT)

So let’s say you and I are friends.

Maybe we grew up together.

Maybe we played sports together.

I might call you and it sounds something like this.

“Dude, how are you doing?

How’s the family?

How are the kids?”

Awesome.

“Hey, I was wondering if I could connect with you for a few minutes.”

“I don’t think I’ve shared this yet, but I just took a part-time position with a financial office.”

“I think it’s going to be a really good opportunity for me.

It gives me some flexibility and potentially a better situation.”

“But the reason I was calling is I needed a little help from you.”

“I’ve got to do a couple things while I’m getting started.”

“One is I’m doing some licensing through the state.”

“And the other is I’ve got to set a handful of what they call training appointments.”

“I was just wondering if you guys would be kind enough to hop on Zoom with me for a few minutes.”

“I’m just going to show you what I’m doing, what I’m looking for, and maybe you can help me get the word out and get some things moving in my business.”

***WHAT HAPPENS ON THE APPOINTMENT

Then when we hop on the appointment I’ll say something like this.

“Hey guys, appreciate you hopping on.”

“________ in training with us right now.”

“He’s getting his license through the state, and part of his training is setting a handful of these appointments so he can learn the process.”

“It also helps him get his name out there and get things moving for himself.”

“So all I’m going to do is run through about 10–15 minutes of information.”

“Just who we are, what we do, and how we help families.”

“Some of it might stick out to you and even be beneficial for you.”

“If so, we can answer questions and get back together another time.”

“If not, we’re not going to be offended.”

“At the very least you might know someone now or down the road who could benefit from what we do.”

“Does that sound alright with you guys?”

Then at the end I’ll ask:

“Do you guys have any questions?”

Sometimes they’ll say:

1.“We actually need one of those policies.”

Or

2. “We want you to look at some stuff for us.”

Or

3. “I might be interested in working with you guys.”

Or they’ll say:

4. “It all looks great but I think we’re alright.”

That’s the worst-case scenario.

But they’re not going to call you later and say:

“Man why the heck did you do that?”

What we want is for them to think more highly of you after the appointment than they did before.

“_______ over there learning some cool stuff.”

“You know what, maybe we should sit down with him sometime.”

That’s what we want.

***SORTING THE DECK

At that point it becomes really simple.

People say:

Yes.

No.

Maybe.

Not right now.

We’re just sorting through the deck of cards.

And then it becomes a numbers game.

So let’s start with the easy ones.

Think about three, four, maybe five people.

People like:

Your family.

People who were in your wedding.

Or if you got a flat tire in the middle of the night… who could you call and say:

“Alright dude, don’t be mad, but you’ve got to come pick me up.”

Those people.

That’s where we start.

In the beginning we’re not trying to convince anybody of anything.

We’re just asking people to help us get started.

So the message is really simple:

“Hey, help me out.”

That’s it.

That’s how the first few appointments get going.
