Attendance Expectations

Attendance

The Why: Academics come First. We prioritize your time in school.

  • A full day of Attendance is required on the day of competition/performance/Practice
  • If an absence is pre-arranged (i.e. medical appointments) or unavoidable (car accident, power outage, funeral), please contact the Attendance Office to notify the school of the absence.
  • OSS excludes you from all extracurricular activities
  • If you have a partial absence, i.e. dr. appointment, you need to check out when you leave and check back in when you return.

In-Season Academic Eligibility

The Why: Academics come First. We prioritize your time in school.

  • During the School Year, a Weekly Eligibility Check will be done by the Athletic and Activities Office for all those in Extracurriculars. THIS YEAR, IT WILL START ON SEPT. 16, 2025.
  • Two Thresholds to become Ineligible
    • Having two E’s at one time.
    • Having an E in the same class for three weeks in a row.
  • Report run on tuesday evening. Deadline for grade adjustments is FRIDAY @ 3:00 pm TO PARTICIPATE THE FOLLOWING WEEK.

REMINDER: ONCE YOU BECOME INELIGIBLE, YOU MUST BE PASSING EVERYTHING TO REGAIN ELIGIBILITY!

Student is failing 2 classes, then passes all classes the next week. After sitting out a week, they would become eligible to participate in their activity.

End of Marking Period Eligibility

  • At the End of the Semester there are Eligibility thresholds as well. these are checked in january and june:
    • Fail Two Classes or have less than a 1.5 GPA for the Semester = Sit for 10% of the next semester's worth of competitions in the current season or upcoming season. (check this for under 1.5]
    • Fail Three Classes = Under the MHSAA mandated 66% passing rule, you’d be ineligible for the next 60 School Days.

It is a Code of Conduct Violation if you use, are in possession of, or are in the presence of underage consumption/possession of a controlled substance and/or paraphernalia

Vaping infractions have been the overwhelmingly #1 violation of the Code of Conduct the last 5 years!

Consequences FOR Violations OF COC

  • 1st Violation:
    • Ineligible for 20% of the teams/activities scheduled contests/events
  • 2nd Violation:
    • Ineligible for 50% of the teams/activities scheduled contests/events
  • 3rd Violation:
    • Ineligible for one whole calendar year

Social Media and Digital Communication

  • Be very, very thoughtful of what you send! These things will stay with you FOREVER! Once you hit send, you can’t get it back.
    • Social Media can be very, very positive.
    • It can also be very, very negative and toxic.
      • What you post/share/communicate over Social Media and Digital Communication can lead to Suspensions, Expulsions, Code of Conduct Violations, and Legal Action.
  • Make Great Choices and BE KIND!

Examples of Negative Posts/Digital Communication

  • Bullying
  • Harassment
  • Spreading false information
  • Threats of physical or psychological harm
  • Mocking or belittling
  • Bigotry
  • Racist or offensive language
  • possession or distributing of “naughty pictures”
  • Anything meant or interpreted to cause distress to another individual
