Competition Stations
Saturday, March 9th
@ University of Central Arkansas
Sign up Deadline: Fri. February 16
Station #1: Reading
Use your best pronunciation to read aloud the paragraphs to a partner at this station.
First, concentrate on the Level 1 or 2 paragraph. If you did it well, continue to advance to the next levels. At the competition, you will have 1 minute to preview before reading aloud. Rubric Samples
Station #2: Speaking
You and your partner will choose a topic card to talk about from the folder below.
Set the timer and see how long you can discuss that topic in the language.
Then, reset the timer and let your partner choose a new card to discuss.
See who can speak for the longest in the language.
Rubric Topic Cards - Teachers can put the possible topics on index cards for students to practice with.
Station #3: Art
The theme of the festival this year is “With world languages, you feel at home anywhere.”
Using this theme, create an original piece of artwork on your paper/marker board.
You will have to work quickly to finish your masterpiece!
Before you leave this group, reveal your finished artwork to your fellow group-mates and explain your interpretation of the theme.
Station #4: Culture Bowl
Use the Quizlet Set in Google Classroom to review your culture trivia knowledge. It works best when played on Match Mode.
At the State Competition, this is done as a Quiz Bowl team. Each person has their own Quizlet set to study and you all compete together against other Quiz Bowl teams.
Station #5: Vocab Bee
One person will use the Quizlet set to play aloud a word. Take turns translating that word (like a Spelling Bee, but translating).
If one teammate can not correctly translate the word, let another teammate try.
For every word you translate correctly, you get 1 point!
In the actual Vocab Bee, you must say verbatim (word-for-word) what is written as the translation to get it correct.
Station #6: Poetry
Look over the Poem provided for 1 minute before you begin. Practice saying this poem out loud with a partner. Be very dramatic!
Hints:
Don’t pause at the end of a line. Only pause at commas or periods.
If you see exclamation points, get louder, make it dramatic!
If you see question marks, raise the tone of your voice at the end of the sentence.
