Religion Curriculum

We Believe: We are the Church

Chapter focus is on how we can actively participate as members of the church, especially through prayer and worship.

Emphasis will be placed on:

  • Sacraments
  • The Blessed Trinity
  • God’s Law

First Holy Communion

We start focusing on First Holy Communion in March using a series called Blessed.

The Religious Education Office will provide details for dates of receiving the Sacrament

Math homework will be given on a daily basis. Most math homework will be review. As part of the assignment, students will always be asked to practice math facts. This is essential for success in multiplication and division.

Also, a relatively easy way for students to feel successful!

READING

Literacy Program

  • Guided reading (literature circle)
  • SQUIRT…(sustained, quiet, uninterrupted reading time)

STUDENTS SHOULD HAVE A READING BOOK AT SCHOOL WITH THEM AT ALL TIMES!!!!!!!

SPELLING/VOCABULARY

  • Weekly spelling and vocabulary lists in connection to our reading series
  • Test on list words are weekly mostly on Fridays. These may include sentence writing.
  • Emphasis with vocabulary is meaning and usage

Reading Strategies & Grammar

Weekly reading tests will be used as assessments in class.

WRITING

Writing is incorporated in the new reading series as a daily practice.

Each students writing grade will include spelling/vocabulary and graded writing pieces.

LISTENING, SPEAKING, AND LIBRARY ARE ALSO PART OF ELA.

Social Studies and Science Curriculums

Emphasis for 3rd grade Social Studies is on Communities.

Emphasis in Science is on the Earth, weather, animal life and plants.

Students will be given various assignments throughout the year that will include classwork and in-class projects.
