Information and Timeline

January

• Counselors spend the first week back making schedule changes for current students and enrolling new students.
• The Tuesday after MLK Day is when scheduling presentations begin in the English classes for grade levels 9-11. One-on-one scheduling meetings begin this month when presentations have been completed.
• Counselors meet with their own grade levels. Snow days can affect this timeline.
• Both of the middle school scheduling presentations take place this month prior to the Academic Showcase so middle school students can attend to learn about all of the opportunities at the high school.

February

• All counselors go to the middle schools to schedule all of the students at one time. They do Lakeview in one day and Edgewood in another. They catch the majority of the students on these visit days.
• The grade level counselors continue to meet with their students this month.

March/April

• The goal is to have ALL in-person high school students scheduled by the Friday before spring break. Sometimes, depending on weather delays or cancellations, that goal is not always met. But, normally, it is completed the week after spring break.
• After meeting with in-person high school students, counselors meet with GEC and DE students to schedule them.

April/May

• Course request tallies are run on a weekly basis to determine if a course needs to be closed if not enough students are enrolled. Counselors will then meet with the students again to find them another class.
• Course request totals are then shared with department leaders. They will determine how many sections of a class they will have and who will be teaching each class so that information can be entered into the master schedule.

May/June/July

• The schedule is “normally” set by end of May, early June. In June, we also look at final grades and make changes to a student’s schedule if they didn’t pass a class. We email students to let them know.
• The schedule is not committed until July, right before rollover.
• Mid July, right after rollover, the students will be able to see their schedules for the next year. We give students the ability to make changes to their schedules if they meet specific requirements.
