Mrs. Kerrigan
My name is Jaclyn Kerrigan, and this is my twenty second year in the Jackson School District. I am a graduate of Jackson Memorial High School (Class of 2000), and I am proud to be working in the same district from which I graduated. I attended Rowan University where I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts with a Secondary Education concentration and a minor in English.
I am looking forward to another great year working with the administration, staff, students, and parents/guardians at Jackson Township High School.

Honors English I
Course Description
The English I Honors course is designed for the accelerated and highly motivated student who will be challenged by course work requiring extensive reading and highly developed communication skills. The course builds on requisite skills for further development, and follows an integrated model of literacy that is aligned to the Common Core Standards. Students will read a variety of texts from multiple genres and deeply explore their elements through close reading and analysis. Academic vocabulary and advanced writing techniques are woven throughout all of the units of study. Students are expected to be active and responsible learners, to read and write independently, and to come to class prepared and ready to learn.

AP Research
Course Description
(Note: AP Seminar is a prerequisite for AP Research. Completing AP Seminar and all its required assessment components is necessary for students to develop the skills to be successful in AP Research.)
AP Research, the second course in the AP Capstone experience, allows students to deeply explore an academic topic, problem, issue, or idea of individual interest. Students design, plan, and implement a yearlong investigation to address a research question. Through this inquiry, they further the skills they acquired in the AP Seminar course by learning research methodology, employing ethical research practices, and accessing, analyzing, and synthesizing information. Students reflect on their skill development, document their processes, and curate the artifacts of their scholarly work through a process and reflection portfolio. The course culminates in an academic paper of 4,000–5,000 words (accompanied by a performance, exhibit, or product where applicable) and a presentation with an oral defense.
Throughout the course, students will engage in a workshop model that combines whole-class instruction, small-group collaboration, individual conferences, and independent research. As students progress through the research process, instruction gradually shifts from teacher-directed lessons to individualized coaching. Students will participate in structured peer review of each major section of the academic paper, regularly consult with expert advisors, maintain a Process and Reflection Portfolio (PREP), and participate in bi-weekly Work in Progress (WIP) conferences to document and reflect on their growth as researchers.
