Who We Are

  • The Springfield College Department of Public Safety is a full-service law enforcement agency.
  • The department consists of 17 fully sworn police officers, 7 fully trained dispatchers, and 1 Community Service Officer
  • The Springfield College Department of Public Safety is a 24/7, 365 days a year agency.

Training/Academies: Municipal Police Training Committee and Springfield Police Academy�

  • MPTC: 22 Weeks at various locations across Massachusetts, including Holyoke and Lynnfield.
  • SPA: 26 Weeks at Springfield Police Training Headquarters.
  • Campus police receive the same training as both state troopers and municipal police.

Alcohol

  • All First Year Residence Halls on Springfield College campus are “Dry.”

​

  • M.G.L. (Ch. 138 Sec. 34A) – If under 21, cannot possess, procure or consume alcoholic beverages.

​

  • The first 6 weeks of First Year Students are a vulnerable time for heavy drinking and alcohol-related consequences.

Cannabis

  • OFF CAMPUS:
  • A PERSON 21 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER MAY, FOR PERSONAL USE:

-Possess up to 1 ounce of cannabis on their person.

-Cultivate 6 cannabis plants at their “primary residence.”

  • ON CAMPUS:

-Cannabis is considered a banned Schedule I narcotic.

-Possessing, growing, or using cannabis in or on any Springfield College property is PROHIBITED.

-Possession of pipes, pipes, growing lamps, or other apparatus is PROHIBITED.

Safety on Campus

  • The Department of Public Safety operates 30 Emergency Callboxes throughout the campus.

​

  • These callboxes dial straight into the Department of Public Safety Dispatch Center.

​

  • Callboxes are strategically placed around campus for easy access.

Safety on Campus

  • All sworn Campus Police Officers are certified First Responders and respond to any medical event on campus.
  • The Department of Public Safety offers Safety Escorts, on foot or vehicle.
  • Shuttle Services are provided by Springfield College, and a ride can be requested by contacting the Department of Public Safety.

Parking Rules and Regulations

Students, Faculty, and Staff of Springfield College must register their vehicle(s) with the Department of Public Safety.

If students have visitors, they must accompany the visitor to the Department of Public Safety to obtain a guest parking permit.

First-year students DO NOT have parking privileges on campus. Exceptions to be determined my Parking Enforcement office.

          • Unregistered vehicles will be cited and towed at the owner’s expense.

Remy the Comfort Dog

  • Remy completed training to be a Comfort Dog. A comfort dog is a dog that is trained to provide affection and support to people, often in settings such as hospitals, retirement homes, nursing homes, schools, libraries, hospices, or disaster areas.
  • Remy completed 24 weeks of training. He learned basic obedience, socializing skills and advanced manner classes.
  • We have all proper certifications for Remy’s training through K9 and Pets.
