Purpose of Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)

  • A Title I, Part A program is to provide all children with a significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education

AND

  • To close education achievement gaps

Title I Eligibility

  • Title I eligibility for School Year 2021- 2022 is based on a minimum poverty threshold of 47.2%, which is determined by the percentage of students qualifying for free and reduced-priced meals.

Requirements for a Title I School

  • Comprehensive Needs Assessment (CNA) must be conducted at each Title I school in order to gain a better understanding of the strengths and the contributing/root causes of the identified needs.
  • Title I Schoolwide Plan must be written, implemented and monitored by each school. It describes how the school will improve academic achievement and by addressing contributing causes of needs identified in the schoolʻs CNA.
  • Parent and Family Engagement activities are to improve student academic achievement and school performance. (ESEA Sec 1116(c)(1)

Parent Involvement

  • Parents are encouraged to be involved in their child’s school, and may do so in the following ways:
    • Be apart of Parent, Teacher, Staff Ohana (Ka Hui Makua)
    • Get to know your schools Governing Board and attend their monthly board meetings held every 3rd Monday of the month
    • Visit hakipuu.org and the dedicated parent portal for news, announcements, events and updates
    • Take part in school activities
