HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN PINCER CLAWS

  • Go to TinkerCAD
  • Under 3D designs and click create design
  • A new workspace will appear

Before we begin..

  • We are going to go into Tinker CAD and familiarize ourselves with the work plane, the different tools and the different ways to move around the work plane
    • To orbit, sue the cube tool located on the top left-hand corner
    • To pan, hold down shift + control + left click and drag
    • To zoom in click on the +
    • To zoom out, click on the -

  • We want to keep in mind that each big square is equal to 10 mm length x width, so each little square is 1 mm length x width

Making the curve of the claw

  • Click on the scribble tool on the right-hand corner and drag to screen

  • This screen is where we are going to create the curve of our claw pincer

  • Create a thin U-shaped figure

  • Click on done on the lower right corner

  • Dimensions:

length = 24 mm

width = 9 mm

height = 12 mm

Creating the Handlebar

  • Is made up of a rectangle and an oval

  • Drag the square shape to the work plane

  • Using the gray squares, we are going to modify the shapes dimensions:
    • Length = 31 mm
    • Width = 5 mm
    • Height = 7 mm

  • the bottom portion is made by connecting two semi-circles together

  • Rotate the shape 90 degrees so that it is standing up by clicking on the arrow

  • * we can use the oval shape that is already provided for us, but this gives us a chance to learn other tools and shortcuts that may be needed for future projects *

  • Select the object and click on control/command + D to duplicate the object

  • Use arrows to move your object so they are side by side

  • Click on the shape and use the rotating tool located on the bottom to rotate the shape 180 degrees

  • Now that they are facing each other, we are going to use the ruler tool to align these shapes together

  • Click on the ruler tool and drag the tool onto the work plane, lining up the circle over the gray square

  • Your work plane should look like this

  • Click on each shape and look at each shapes dimensions. Notice the green arrow on that is appearing when we click on the shape on the right-and side

  • Click inside the box and change the number to 10
    • We should then see that the two shapes are now stuck to each other

  • Now that they are aligned, click on the x button to get rid of the ruler
    • If you hover over the button, it should appear red

  • Your shape should not look like this
    • We need to get rid of the line in the middle

  • Highlight both shapes and click on the group button

  • Now we have a perfectly grouped and aligned circle

Create an oval shape

  • Drag on the gray edges until you make a long oval shape-like figure

  • Dimensions:
    • Length = 21 mm
    • Width = 6 mm
    • Height = 7 mm

  • Rotate the shape 28 degrees and group the shape with the other piece of the handlebar

Grouping all the shapes together

  • Take the U-shaped figure that we created and slight overlap the shape on top of the handlebar

  • Highlight all the shapes and group them together using the group icon

  • Drag two cylinders to the work plane
    • Height = 7 mm
    • Width = 3 mm
    • Length = 3 mm

  • Make each circle a hole that we can cut out

  • Place the two shapes in the lower handlebar, making sure they are equal in length

  • Group all the parts together and two holes should have been created

Duplicate

  • Click on the shape and on your keyboard press command/control and “D”

  • Use your arrows on your computer to move the shape, so that they are next to each other

  • Click on the mirror icon located on the tool bar and click on the arrows to flip the second shape 180 degrees

Final Product

  • You have now made your own pincer claws!!
