REGISTERING BRANDS

  • Must include at least 2 characters or shapes
  • Must list where the brand will be located (left or right hip, left or right shoulder, or rib)
  • Horses are sometimes branded on the jaw
  • Also need to include whether brand is hot or freeze
  • DATCP

HOT BRANDING

  • Properly heated iron is color of ashes
  • Wood fire is best
  • If iron is too thin (less than 3/8 inch) it will leave scar
  • Some brands are electric

  • Liquid nitrogen or dry ice and alcohol cool the irons
  • Freeze the hair follicles to make the hair come back white
  • More visible than hot brands
  • Time the iron is held on the animal depends on the weather

  • Can be joined, upright, or combinations
  • Lazy, crazy, rocking, swinging hanging, walking, flying, running, tumbling
  • Read left to right
  • Top to bottom
  • Or if enclosed outside in

Make your own Brand

  • Must have brand approved by Mr. Bakeberg
    • 3 characters
    • at least 1 character must be “doing something”
    • must have meaning
    • can’t be a duplicate brand
    • Create your brand (Get approved by Bakeberg)
      • Draw brand out - Use Kami, Google Doc, etc.
      • Write brand out
      • Determine type of brand freeze/ hot

  1. Once completed save to the Classroom Flash Drive. Label your file with your name!
  2. Laser your Brand onto the wooden disc.
  3. Set your completed Branded disc in the box, ready for finish.
