Update your Zoom Software

  1. Click here
  2. Download the updated Zoom Client

This will ensure you have the current version of Zoom, and will help avoid glitches.

Zoom Audio

  1. Mute/unmute or click the arrow to open the audio settings

  • Choose your microphone - go here if the meeting can’t hear you
    1. Make sure you’re not on mute

  • Choose your speaker - go here if you can’t hear the meeting
    • Check your device’s volume

  • Test Speaker & Microphone to make sure you can hear and be heard

  • Audio Settings: if you need to change things beyond the things listed above

Zoom video

  • Start/stop your webcam or click the arrow for settings

  • Choose your webcam

  • Add a virtual background, blur effect or filter
    • This is really helpful if your room is a mess 😂

  • Video settings, for more advanced settings

Zoom virtual backgrounds & Blur effect

  1. To the right of the “Start/Stop Video” button, click the up arrow
  2. Choose Virtual Background
  3. If you just want to blur the space behind you, select “Blur”
  4. If you want an image as your background, you can choose an image provided by Zoom or click the plus sign to upload an image
  5. Whether it’s a zoom image or yours, simple click on it to make that your background, then close the window

Zoom Chat

  • Click “Chat” at the bottom of the screen
  • Next to “To” you can select whom to chat
  • Type your message below that
  • You can add emojis here

*All chat messages are saved in the log, including direct messages to individual people*

Zoom Reactions

  • To open your reaction choices

  • Temporary reactions that show up on your profile picture then disappear (3 dots to get all emoji choices)

  • Messages to the host, from left to right
    • Yes
    • No
    • Slow down
    • Speed up
    • ☕ I’ll be right back (good to turn webcam off too)
    • 👆🏼 must be turned off by you (or cleared by host)

  • Raise your hand to ask a question or speak in class

Zoom - how to find it if you lose it

  • If you are using the Zoom app, look for the logo in your toolbar (bottom of your screen)
    • Click that to restore Zoom
    • Sometimes the window gets minimized, so it could be a small Zoom window somewhere on your screen
  • Alt + Tab (on a PC) or Command + Tab (on a Mac)
    • Click and hold the Alt key (PC) or Command key (Mac)
    • Press Tab to see all of your active windows
    • Keep pressing tab until the Zoom window is highlighted
    • Once Zoom is highlighted, release Alt/Command
    • Think of the Tab key like a right arrow button.)

Zoom Screen sharing - how to choose the right thing

  • Click the green “Share Screen” at the bottom of the screen
  • Next to choose what you want to share
    • Screen or Desktop will share whatever you pull up
    • Select a Chrome window to share a specific site
    • You know what you’ve selected by the blue highlight (Screen 2 in this example)
  • Bottom right of the window, click the blue share button
