Purpose of the Course Selection Form

5

The Course Selection Form has two purposes:

  1. You will transfer the information from this form into StudentVue during your US History Class next week.
  2. You will also turn in this form to your US History teacher after you have inputted the information into StudentVue. The forms will be turned into the Counseling Office so that Counselors can double check student course requests when building schedules.

Line-by-Line: Double Checking Your Course Selection Form

6

Before you turn in your Course Selection form, it is important that you double check that it is complete and accurate.

First: make sure you have all of your personal information filled in at the top of the form, including your signature, and a parent/guardian’s signature, and the box about schedule changes is checked.

For the Language Arts, Individuals and Societies, and Science subject areas, the 10th grade classes are pre-checked for you because all 10th Graders will take the same courses. That means, there is nothing you need to do on the form for these three courses.

For the Math subject area, students will want to choose the math class that is right for them. There are four different course options available for 10th graders, and you will talk with your math teacher and your family to help you choose the option that is right for you.

You will notice that the AGS 1 class has a place for your math teacher to circle “YES” or “NO”. IF they circle no, that means there is a different course they think might be a better option for you, and they will tell you what that is. You and your family will then make the final choice.

For the Language Acquisition subject area, there are again multiple course options for students. If you are currently in a French or Spanish class, talk with your teacher about what level course will be right for you next year. Similar to math, the teacher will circle “YES” or “NO” for the course you want to take. IF they circle no, that means there is a different course they think might be a better option for you, and they will tell you what that is. You and your family will then make the final choice. If you are not currently in a French or Spanish class, you can sign up for Spanish 1 or French 1 and no teacher initials/recommendation is required.

For the next section of the form, you will see options for Health and PE as well as the new Personal Finance course which is required for graduation.

All 10th grade students are expected to take Health 1. To make sure you have selected this course, please put an “X” in the first column of the row that has the “Health 1” class.

Students may choose to take PE and Personal Finance in 10th grade. They can also can also wait and take those classes in 11th or 12th grade. Put an “X” in the first column if you want to take one or both of these classes. For PE, also write in the Course Code for the PE class you want.

On the top section of the reverse side of the Course Selection form, students have space to write in the elective classes they would like to take.

If you chose to take Health 1, PE and the Personal Finance course on the front side of the paper, you will only need to choose one .5 credit course in this Electives section.

REMEMBER: If you added a PE class on the front side of the paper, you do NOT need to list it again in the elective boxes on the reverse side of the paper.

In the final section of the reverse side of the Course Selection form, students have space to write in the alternative classes they would like to take. These are “back up” options that we ask students to select just in case their Elective class choices can’t fit in their schedule.

These can be year-long classes, or semester-long classes.

It is important that you choose five class options that you would truly like to take if your elective class choices cannot fit in your schedule.

StEPP Document

15

For the remainder of the class period, students should work on completing their StEPP document.

As a reminder, students review and update their StEPP document each year, and the goal is to complete the document with information that is true for you at this point in time.

While you are working on your StEPP document, I will be talking with you individually to double check that your Course Selection Form is ready for the input process next week.

REMINDER:

The StEPP document is a digital document that can be found on the “Modules” tab of the Class of 2028 course.
