{YOUR_NAME}’s Journey

2 of 7

What are Journey Lines?

  • A mapping of your highs and lows over time
  • These are often significant accomplishments, changes, or losses
  • They help a team learn more about each other when it comes to:
    • Working history,
    • Skills,
    • Significant life events,
    • What each person enjoys doing and not doing
  • They can help self-managed teams decide how to work together as we learn more about each others’ experience and what each of us enjoys and values
  • Often, this invites some conversations on a more personal nature which enhances the basic emotional safety on the team.
    • It is ok to be human rather than being a professional robot at work! It’s also ok to be private!

Using the template

  • The x-axis represents your life over time
  • Start wherever in your life’s timeline that you would like to begin sharing
  • Drag the dots up (for positive life events) or down (for negative life events)
  • You can choose to share as much or as little as you like
  • Make a footnote for each labeled dot in the speaker notes section of the slide
  • Delete any extraneous dots and lines
  • Use both slides if you have lots to share!
  • Present your slide deck to your teammates
