This week I created a Linkedin account. I can use Linkedin to help show my resume and to assist me to find jobs in the future.

Prompt 2: What situations, topics, or ideas spark your curiosity and cause you to want to know or ask more about?

How do I create a resume? What kind of information does it show?

Week 2:

Prompt 1: What have you done this week for Career Explorations? How can you apply it to your future?

This week I started my volunteer hours by researching to formulate an educative video on animals.

Prompt 2: What are some things you do well when working with other people? What is one change to improve how you collaborate with others when you work on a team?

I can have good discussions when working in groups or with other people. It helps to have other people’s ideas to improve my own. The one thing I would change when I work with others is that sometimes I don’t speak enough so my ideas don't get heard.

Week 3:

Prompt 1: What have you done this week for Career Explorations? How can you apply it to your future?

This week I had a mentor meeting and finished my volunteering hours for the next benchmark. I can use the feedback from my Mentor meeting to improve my skills to use in my future.

Prompt 2: Do you find it difficult or easy to accept feedback? Why? Share an example of a time you thought about and applied feedback this summer.

I find that I take feedback well almost all of the time. I feel that feedback is a good thing, not a bad thing. My mentor gave me feedback on how I could be more curious and ask more questions in my class.

Week 4:

Prompt 1: What have you done this week for Career Explorations? How can you apply it to your future?

This week I have completed my second benchmark. I have started to record for my educational video for my volunteering hours. I also made my first resume that I can use to help me get a job in the future.

Prompt 2: How do you bounce back from setbacks, when things do not go your way? You will be interviewing someone next week, what questions could you ask them about overcoming obstacles?

When things don’t go my way I stay positive and try to push through so that I can bounce back from that setback. Some questions I might ask the person I am interviewing are “How do you overcome your obstacles?”, and, “What kind of obstacles did/do you have to overcome?”

Week 5:

Prompt 1: What have you done this week for Career Explorations? How can you apply it to your future?

This week I had an interview with professional photographers Darryll Ann and Joe Geske. I asked questions and got a lot of information back that I can use while taking photos. This interview helps me by acting as a practice for when I have more professional interviews in the future.

Prompt 2: In what ways have you worked on or improved your professional skills this summer? Where do you see opportunities for improvement?

This summer I have worked on my professional oral communication. I feel that by having more zoom meetings and interviews my oral communication has improved. That being said I think that I still need to improve my oral communication more face to face because it’s not one of my strongest skills.

Interview Reflection

I had an interview with wedding photographers, Darryll Ann and Joe Geske. I acquired many new ideas and thoughts from this interview. I learned that it doesn't matter what kind of camera you use but how you use it in different situations, meaning that you don't need fancy equipment just the right mindset to accomplish your goal of taking an excellent photo. They spoke about many techniques that they use with lighting sources and what kind of equipment they use. In some cases, they had to use items found at the Home-Depot to create unique lighting. Education is not required in the field of photography but it is best if you get a business degree or take basic classes in photography if you're are going to be doing it on your own as a full-time job. Both Darryll Ann and Joe Geske didn't go into college thinking that they would become wedding photographers. In the beginning, it was just a hobby but soon became their career. It really amazes me how some people can change their lives so dramatically in such a short time.

I am sure much of the information given to me will stick and I will use it in the future. They both have gone through many challenges but they said that they have not seen any challenges as big as this pandemic. Without many weddings, they have had many setbacks. But these setbacks will only make them better as they find new ways to cope with the new life changes. This Interview has taught me many things about not only photography but about a real interview setting.

Growth Reflection

This summer I discovered many new skills that I should improve upon. For example, I found that I need to work on my communication skills with other people. It will be very important for me to be able to communicate well with others to work to the best of my ability. Receiving feedback seems like a bad thing but I received feedback from my mentor. They said that I should try to be more curious because it is an important trait to have as I get older and need to learn new things. By improving this skill I will have the opportunity to learn more and get more feedback. Feedback is not a bad thing but a good thing that will help me improve and get better to help my future.

This summer I also did sixteen hours of Volunteering. For my volunteering, I created an educational video on animals. I spent the time researching, recording, and editing. I learned that it is not an easy task to create a video in a short amount of time. Many people do this as their full-time career and I understand now that it takes a lot of time and patience to create a really good piece of work. In the end, I enjoyed creating the video and sharing what I love with others. I can use my reflection tools and my journals as personal feedback so that I can improve my skills as an individual. People are always making themselves better by working with the feedback given to them. This whole experience with Career explorations has taught me that working with others and obtaining feedback is very important towards my future.
