SETTLEMENT

SITE

After arriving on the shores of Roanoke Island, the settlers would have set up a camp similar to the layout featured here in the settlement site. All of the supplies needed for the settlement were transported from England, including temporary shelter, tools, weapons, armor, and food. Buildings, shelter, and a protective palisade were constructed soon after their arrival. Once the settlement was established, the settlers would start to explore and map out the surrounding area, using the settlement site as their base.
