With God nothing is impossible

With God nothing is impossible

SCRIPTURE

26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

30-31 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.

- Luke 1:26, 30-31, 34-35, 37

With God nothing is impossible

Russell M. Nelson

President of the Church

2008 - Present

The Lord has often chosen to instruct His people in their times of trial. Scriptures show that some of His lasting lessons have been taught with examples...His teachings are frequently based on common understanding, but with uncommon results. Indeed, one might say that to teach His people, the Lord employs the unlikely…When Mary was notified of her sacred responsibility, the announcing angel reassured, “For with God nothing shall be impossible”…How is it possible to achieve the “impossible”? Learn and obey the teachings of God. From the holy scriptures, heaven-sent lift will be found for heaven-sent duties…The Lord said, “Look unto me in every thought”. That special vision will also help clarify your wishes when they may be a bit fuzzy and out of focus with God’s hopes for your divine destiny. Indeed, the precise challenge you regard now as “impossible” may be the very refinement you need, in His eye…With celestial sight, trials impossible to change become possible to endure.

Nephi’s Courage(Children's Songbook #120)

MUSIC

1. The Lord commanded Nephi to go and get the plates

From the wicked Laban inside the city gates.

Laman and Lemuel were both afraid to try.

Nephi was courageous. This was his reply:

2. The Lord commanded Nephi to go and build a boat.

Nephi’s older brothers believed it would not float.

Laughing and mocking, they said he should not try.

Nephi was courageous. This was his reply:

3. The Lord gives us commandments and asks us to obey.

Sometimes I am tempted to choose another way.

When I’m discouraged, and think I cannot try,

I will be courageous, and I will reply:

Chorus:

“I will go; I will do the thing the Lord commands.

I know the Lord provides a way; he wants me to obey.

I will go; I will do the thing the Lord commands.

I know the Lord provides a way; he wants me to obey.”

Heavenly Father works through His faithful children to accomplish His purposes

SCRIPTURE

5-6 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias…and his wife…Elisabeth. And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

11-13 And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

14-15 And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth. For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.

16 And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.

- Luke 1:5-6, 11-13-16

Heavenly Father works through His faithful children to accomplish His purposes

Ronald A. Rasband

Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

Each of us is precious and loved by the Lord, who cares, who whispers, and who watches over us in ways unique to each of us. He is infinitely wiser and more powerful than mortal men and women. He knows our challenges, our triumphs, and the righteous desires of our hearts…Not all that the Lord asks of us is a result of how strong we are, how faithful we are, or what we may know…the Lord knows what each of us is capable of doing and becoming. What did the Apostle Paul teach? “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

I Will Follow God’s Plan(Children’s Songbook #164)

MUSIC

My life is a gift; my life has a plan.

My life has a purpose; in heav’n it began.

My choice was to come to this lovely home on earth

And seek for God’s light to direct me from birth.

I will follow God’s plan for me,

Holding fast to his word and his love.

I will work, and I will pray;

I will always walk in his way.

Then I will be happy on earth

And in my home above.

Angels announced the birth of Jesus

Angels announced the birth of Jesus

SCRIPTURE

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.

20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

- Matthew 1:18-21

Angels announced the birth of Jesus

Jeffrey R. Holland

Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

When the time for this Savior’s advent was at hand, an angel was sent to announce to Mary that she was to be the mother of the Son of God. Then a host of angels was commissioned to sing on the night the baby Jesus was born. Shortly thereafter an angel would announce to Joseph that the newborn baby was in danger and that this little family must flee to Egypt for safety. When it was safe to return, an angel conveyed that information to the family and the three returned to the land of their heritage.

From the beginning down through the dispensations, God has used angels as His emissaries in conveying love and concern for His children. Time in this setting does not allow even a cursory examination of the scriptures or our own latter-day history, which are so filled with accounts of angels ministering to those on earth, but it is rich doctrine and rich history indeed.

There Was Starlight on the Hillside (Children's Songbook #40)

MUSIC

1. There was starlight on the hillside,

And one star bent very low

Till it passed above a stable

On that night so long ago.

2. There were shepherds on the hillside

On that night in Bethlehem.

Heav’nly hosts appeared, proclaiming

Joyous tidings unto them.

3. There was Jesus in the manger,

Born that night in Bethlehem.

And the shepherds left the hillside,

And they came to worship him.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God

John M. Madsen

Of the Seventy

No doctrine is more fundamental to an understanding of the plan of salvation than the doctrine which reveals the true identity and role of Jesus Christ…We have no more sacred privilege, and no more urgent and sacred responsibility, than to bear testimony that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God! Concert halls are filled at Christmastime by people in many lands throughout the world who, with reverence and rejoicing, stand and sing the triumphant and immortal words of Isaiah, set to the music of Handel’s Messiah…But who is this “child”? Who is this “son”? And “whose son is he”? Who is this “mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace,” spoken of by Isaiah?

He is Jesus Christ, born into this world, as the “Only Begotten Son” of God “the Eternal Father,” and the Son of Mary, “after the manner of the flesh.”…I know and bear witness that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, that he was and is the Great Jehovah, the Savior and Redeemer of the world.

How Can I Bless Others with My Testimony of Jesus Christ?

SCRIPTURE

46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,

47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.

50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.

How Can I Bless Others with My Testimony of Jesus Christ?

Gary E. Stevenson

Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

Your testimony is a most precious possession, often associated with deep spiritual feelings…Acquiring this witness will change what you say and how you act…You bear your testimony when you share spiritual feelings with others. As a member of the Church, you have opportunities to bear your spoken testimony in formal Church meetings or in less formal, one-on-one conversations with family, friends, and others.

Another way you share your testimony is through righteous behavior. Your testimony in Jesus Christ isn’t just what you say—it’s who you are. Each time you bear vocal witness or demonstrate through your actions your commitment to follow Jesus Christ, you invite others to “come unto Christ.”…Brothers and sisters, I invite you to seek opportunities to bear your testimony in word and in deed.

The Things I Do(Children’s Songbook #170)

MUSIC

1. I’m much too young to go abroad

To teach and preach the word of God,

But I can show I know it’s true,

Quite simply, by the things I do.

2. The people in my neighborhood

Will judge the gospel bad or good

By how I act at work and play,

And not just on the Sabbath day.

Music: Vanja Y. Watkins, b. 1938. © 1975 IRI

3. I’ll take my friends to church with me,

Where I will act with dignity.

My rev’rence and my happy face

Will tell them it’s a sacred place.

4. In ev’rything I do they’ll see

I am what I profess to be.

Then when the elders find their door,

they’ll say, “Come in and tell us more.”

God’s blessings come in His own time

SCRIPTURE

57-58 Now Elisabeth’s full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son. And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.

59-60 And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father. And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John.

61-64 And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name. And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called. And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all. And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God.

66 And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.

God’s blessings come in His own time

Henry B. Eyring

Of the First Presidency

[W]e can’t insist on our timetable when the Lord has His own…Sometimes our insistence on acting according to our own timetable can obscure His will for us…We remove the pavilion when we feel and pray, “Thy will be done” and “in Thine own time.” His time should be soon enough for us since we know that He wants only what is best…Although His time is not always our time, we can be sure that the Lord keeps His promises. For any of you who now feel that He is hard to reach, I testify that the day will come that we all will see Him face to face. Just as there is nothing now to obscure His view of us, there will be nothing to obscure our view of Him.

And say a little prayer.

At home, at school or play.
