Mission-Driven

Structure

Continually design teams in service of a clear mission

Clarify the Mission

Be focused on what we’re trying to achieve, not how we’re going to achieve it

STEP

DESCRIPTION

Group work into roles

Organize the work to be done into logical clusters of similar tasks. Give these clusters a name and you’ve defined the roles you need on the team!

Assign roles

Fill the roles with people. Keep the team lean; it’s OK to assign multiple roles to a single person

Determine decision rights

What are the thresholds where each role has complete autonomy to make decisions? Give roles clear limits and powers in order to enable speed

Define work to be done

Capture all the work that the team needs to do (not just what it’s doing today) in a spreadsheet or on post-its
