Sunset offers many pathways for students to choose from. These pathways lead to career readiness skills in a specific field. The next slides are an overview of what we offer at Sunset and what the district offers to all students.
If students are not interested in a pathway there are many other options and paths to graduation!

Sunset offers an IB Diploma in addition to a Standard Diploma.
Students interested in this pathway should attend curriculum night Wednesday February 11th and attend one of the two presentations in the media center.

Behavioral Health students are those interested in helping professions serving people’s mental health needs but also addiction and other behaviors that impact well-being. The classes focus on collaborative learning and require high levels of participation and engagement with high levels of support and community building.

What is AVID?
*A program to help students overcome obstacles and achieve success. AVID students graduate high school and attend college at higher rates, but more importantly, they think critically, collaborate and set high expectations for themselves to conquer the challenges that await them.

What classes Does Sunset Offer?
Sunset offers many different courses in each subject area
Let’s go over each subject one at a time
9th Grade Teams
Sunset is part of the Northwest Regional 9th Grade Success Network.
This means that we have a team of teachers working on helping 9th grade students be successful their first year of high school!
Sunset divides the 9th graders up into teams. Each team has a language arts, history, and science teacher on it. These three teachers meet monthly to discuss student success and strategies for students that are not quite being successful.
All 9th graders will go into Lit & Comp 9.
Students will get a choice in 11th grade to pick their pathway: IB SL or IB HL
The elective courses can be taken in addition to the pathway classes.
Language Arts
Social Studies (History)
All 9th graders will go into US History
11th graders must pick between IB History SL, IB History HL and IB GloPo.
Science
All 9th graders will go into STEM Physics.
We have many science courses so take a look at what options are available for your 11th and 12th grade years.
Students need 3 credits of math.
Your Math pathway can take different paths.
Be sure to talk to your math teacher about which pathway would meet your goals!

Program Planning Guide linked here
On your Course Selection worksheet, choose your electives in order of preference (1-4). Each line is for one semester so if it is a 1.0 credit class you have to use two lines.
Electives are listed alphabetically by department on the back of your Course Selection worksheet.
Select a minimum of 5 alternates.
If you are planning to take a World Language, make sure it add it in the first two lines in the Elective Courses section.
Use the Notes section on the Course Selection worksheet to give your counselor any additional information.
You will take this worksheet home to talk with your family and get a guardian signature. You will bring the form back to school and turn it in.
