Science Curriculum Passport Animals and Humans
The science curriculum aims to nurture a healthy curiosity about our universe and equip pupils with the confidence to ask questions and engage in science-based discussions which affect their own lives, the progress of society and the future of our world. Scientific processes are built upon and developed over time through systematic investigations and engaging first-hand experiences of the biological, chemical and physical processes that make up their world.

In this topic we learn about the differences between humans and animals. We learn that humans are mammals just like whales and polar bears. We learn about animals being suited to their environment for example the polar bear has thick waterproof fur! We think about the human body and and link this to the senses by comparing different textures, sounds and smells.

During our topic we look at the importance of our teeth and their function, not only in the process of eating our food, but also who they support our bodies to begin the digestive process. We discover that we can determine whether an animal is a herbivore, omnivore or carnivore from examining their teeth. We learn about how teeth are linked to the digestive system and are that our mouths are the starting point for the process of how animals, including humans digest their food.
