Anqi Zu 俎安琪

  • Second year doctoral students in Education - Language, Literacy, and Culture researching scientific literacy, science engagement.
  • Have been teaching students of divergent age and educational backgrounds for 8 years.
  • Taught ENGL 296 in Autumn, had a wonderful course.
  • I do NOT view myself as a scientist or future scientist, but I view my work valuable for science researchers and science workers. I want to nurture future scientists, and make science work represented accessible, and properly to the broader public.
  • This is my first time teaching this course. Many thanks to Hunter Little, whom shared her previous syllabus with me.
  • A partner, a pet owner, and a family member.
  • If I have unlimited time and energy to do a science research, I want to know how to better understand animals’ communications.

  • The ones with a star on their name tag please introduce yourself to the class.
  • The ones with a circle next to their number, please introduce the one with longest hair in your group.
  • The ones with a heart next to their number, please introduce someone, but not you in the group.

Syllabus Introduction

What is a conference?

  • Conference is like a mandatory office hour that PWAC requested instructors to hold for each writing series (we have two!)
  • Will take about 15 mins for each person;
  • 40 mins for a group
  • I would appreciate:
    • Completed draft of your project.
    • Three questions that you feel most uncertain about the paper.
    • Some updates about your life and feelings about the class.

More Than Syllabus

  • Food: I will (not try my best, but for sure) bring some food to class every week.
  • Class Cancellation: As per the requirement of the PWAC, we shall cancel 3-4 class periods for conference. For now, I only canceled 3. I hope I stay healthy and never need to cancel the fourth.
  • My hope would be to give a “silly but meaningful” class award to everyone. Such as “BEST GROUP LEADER AWARDS”, “SYLLABUS HERO AWARDS”. I will give out those awards at the end of the quarter.
  • You can rely on me to give feedbacks to each of your exit ticket, sometimes, it would be a “well noted”, but I care about your feedbacks.
  • When you are writing your exit ticket, I will step out of the classroom for 5 minutes. I will put a small “suggestion box” for you, if you have any concerns/suggestions for my class.
  • If you need any accommodations - you need headset for individual working time, you really cannot work within a group for specific reason, you need extended working time, please let me know as early as possible, I would rather know it in the survey, than when the assignment is due.
  • The chime sound is a signal for getting your attention back
  • I really really really hope you can visit my office hours, as much as possible
