“Masquerade” Theme

Items We’d Like to Borrow

In addition to our 2 remaining crafting sessions (next Tuesday & Thursday after school), the plan is to at 8am ARRIVE FRIDAY, May 18th (in the RMS lower gym). Meet at the same time Saturday the 19th. To keep things as organized as possible, you will be assigned a ZONE upon arrival along with a picture & decorating supplies. Items will be on the stage.

Zone 1: Main Entrance

• 3 trophy cases turn into jazz marquee posters
• Cover with black paper. Add jazz musician silhouettes (drawn by RMS art) & musical notes (need to buy)
• Add marquee lights around perimeter of trophy cases
• Big “French Quarter” Marquee sign on school easel
• Set up ticket table w/ gold table skirt, balloons, party decor
• Play jazz music (need speakers)
• Welcome To the Masquerade (Set Up Sign) - buy on Etsy
• Cover 7th Grade Hallway & Cafeteria halls with Foil Curtains
• Set up faux brick walls with trailing vines
• Create Helium Balloon Arch (volunteers needed to blow up balloons, then thread the bottoms making the arch)
• Place Mask at top of balloon arch (already made by RMS art volunteers)
• Line Up Luminaries (insert LED tealights)
• Outdoors - optional, luminaries or foil curtains if any remain

Zone 2: Main Hallway

• Hang French Quarter Scene setters on walls
• Make Helium Balloon Arch
• Hang pennant / banners across hallway ceiling
• Set Up Red Carpet
• Line Red Carpet with Stanchions, fabric & lights
• Add dancing couple silhouettes along hallway
• 8’ Street Lights (line walkway, add LED tea lights inside)
• Hang street names on street lamps
• Hang ferns from alternating street lights
• Place 2 LED Tealights per window facing outdoor commons area

Zone 3: Outdoor Commons Area

• Wrap mini lights around trunks of trees (need lights!)
• Mini lights around railings
• Line sidewalk with balloons / benches
• Luminaries (if needed)
• 8-10 Tissue Paper Pom Poms from trees

Zone 4: Animated Fountain Display

• Set up backdrop behind fountain
• Place fountain at corner where 2 hallways intersect
• Set up fountain base (3 cardboard pieces)
• Place white mini lights inside under balloons
• Blow up white balloon “bubbles”
• Lean on wall (fountain is too tall to remain on the tree stand).
• Decorate with foil curtains in adjacent areas to cover hallways or anything unsightly

Zone 5: Hallway leading to lower gym

• Repeat what we did in Zone 2
• More of a party / street scene (blinking lights, etc).
• Add scene setters on lockers
• Line hallway with street lights
• Drape banners across ceiling
• Add 2 foil curtains framing the water fountain area
• Add 2 large masks either side of fountain
• Foil curtains hang above gym doors - leading to gym

Zone 6: Inside of Restrooms

• Examples of bathroom decor from 2014 RMS dance
• TBD - donations accepted of perfumes, lotions from Five Below (a tray of toiletries)

Zone 7: Food, Drink & Candy Tables

• Hang 2 chandeliers on basketball hoops w/ pom poms and/or paper lanterns with LED. Raise basketball hoops
• Run electrical
• Move 2 volleyball posts behind 4 tables. Hang black gossamer backdrop and mini lights behind it (see photos)
• Add 4 tables (under basketball nets)
• Cover with gold table skirts & black tablecloths
• Lights behind white tulle
• Add Green / Purple Gold pinwheels at draped

Zone 8: Top of Gym Bleachers / Far end of gym

• Add extension cords (before folding bleachers against wall)
• Assemble 6 stars (borrowed from prom, as shown)
• Place PVC stars on top of bleachers
• Uplight front of bleachers (purple lights from DJ?)
• Scene setter (89 ft needed to cover bleachers)
• Full length - hang curtain LED lights

Zone 9: Create (Two) Balloon Arches

• Helium and fishing wire balloon arches
• Simply blow up / attach to fishing wire (needle). assemble
• Create a large “X” across gym dance floor
• Begin Saturday morning

Zone 10: Tent (we have one 10’x20’)

• Set up tent in gym, opposite wall of food table.
• Create “lounge” area at one end with red area rug, fireplace. Make it comfortable
• Other side is card tables & games
• Hang tulle / paper chandelier / lights around frame
• Accept chair donations
• Add Casino art
• Card tables
• Cards & non-electronic games

Zone 12: Centerpieces & Tables

• Fairy lights (battery operated)
• Round mirror centerpiece with LED lights
• Rent or borrow round table, add tablecloths
• Chairs (chair covers?)
• Simple balloon centerpieces would be fine with masks at the base. Volunteers?
