HOW DO WORKSHOPS WORK?

  • Six zoom meetings over seven weeks (i.e., a meeting every 9-10 days)
  • A google drive will be set up for each group to enable drafts to be shared
  • A draft or revised draft of particular section(s) will be due to the google drive prior to every meeting (except the first)
  • Each meeting will include:

- a check-in on your progress

- trouble shooting any issues that have arisen

  • a lesson related to a particular section of a manuscript (e.g., introduction, graphics, results, discussion, methods, conclusions) or a writing strategy (e.g., storytelling)
  • Peer review of the work of others (to be completed within 48 hours of each meeting)

  • Guidance and instruction

  • Accountability

  • A focus on storytelling and narrative structure

  • The opportunity to learn from others

  • Making the “first” draft an advanced draft

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO PARTICIPATE?

  • Plan A ($250): Workshop and peer review only
  • Plan B ($500; recommended for most trainees): Workshop and peer review, plus consultant provides one edit of the draft (introduction through results and discussion)
  • Plan C ($1500): Workshop and peer review, plus comprehensive individual mentoring and editing at each stage of the process.

Additional editing services ($125/hour) can be added to Plans A and B, if desired.

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE?

  • Since the goal of the workshop is to generate an advanced version of a manuscript, it is most appropriate for students to have all or at least most of their results by the middle of the workshop.
  • Strive to pick a workshop session that most closely aligns with your research progress:

Session 1: begins 4/20

Session 2: begins 5/4

Session 3: begins 7/6

Session 4: begins 7/27
